my current "big toad"

this is the second sub I've owned now, the first was an "85 1/2ton 4X4 that I bought with about 63k on it, and drove to well over 200K!
I bought this one here, a 3/4ton 4X4 from the second owner three years ago, with about 86K and it now has 117K. Just stuck a starter in it over the weekend, no symptoms, up and died without a warning!
I took a trip to Oregon with two friends and our five bird dogs in my old '75 Int. Scout for ten days, were packed in like sardines, and decided then, my next ride would be a sub and been driving them ever since '90! Started pointing out every sub I saw to my wife, she said, "you want one of those Big Toads?" Needless to say, she got one of those sideways type looks!

Yeah,I saw this and had to have it.I got what I wanted mechanically.Lots bof loaded Subs out there, and that would be nice. But,this is a jump in and go machine and gets the job done. The best thing is it was fleet-maintained and at 96K I could buy with confidence. If I see another,I want to buy it.I figure just to have the drvrteain for an older truck is worth it.

my burb

some pictures of my '76 suburban 1/2 ton, 454/th400, a/c, tow package, power rear window but manual all other windows and some sort of crazy cruise control lookin' thing. i think it is a weirdly optioned truck.
my plans include: flat black paint, red interior, bagged suspension, big rims, built motor and possibly a supercharger. the plan is for this to be my shop truck for the custom cabinet/furniture shop i would like to open in the near future.

do you like my inner fender mounted tool box?

Re: The first ever 73-91 Burb post your ride thread!

Here's a pic of my 77 Chevy Suburban Silverado 20 Trailering Special. My dad bought it new in 1977. It came equiped with the 250 horse 454 & turbo 400.Limited slip 4:11 rear.
Has a buckskin vinyl interior. Had a few options on it including the 40 gallon gas tank with skid plate. Seems weird on a 2-wheel drive. Rear AC,tinted glass, big mirrors, grill trim, trailering package, Tilt wheel, cruise, power rear window,2-tone paint, heavy front springs, oil & trans coolers, etc.
Was a daily driver from 77-02. Had the engine rebuilt once & the trans twice. We put headers & a 2 1/2" exhaust on it. Always ran & pulled like a champ till he parked it. It really needs alot of little things to be nice again. No time or money, so I have it now & am taking the engine & trans out & using them on my sons 72 Malibu. Just gonna strip what we need & junk the rest. Too many projects & no time or $$$$'s. Oh, & before anyone asks, yes, the headlite surrounds are off a 79. LOL. Enjoy Brad

Re: The first ever 73-91 Burb post your ride thread!

hahaha i need to get my convertible on here. 1977 Chevrolet 3/4 2wd, heavy duty application 454, turbo 400, towing package, big gas tank, cruise air and all the options. Some idiot cut the back half of the roof off (behind rear doors) to haul rock, and it wasn't a very rusty truck. Couldn't he had just bought an old ford to tear up??? i mean you just ruined a perfectly good truck. Oh well ill try to remember to get pics here.

edit: got the pics now

Here is my '91. I bought it mainly to plow my driveway, but it looks like I am going to be using it as a daily driver this summer.

Cool my first 3/4 ton...

First off I would like to say, my FIRST 73-91 Burb was an '85 GMC c1500 sierra classic black/silver two tone with a 305/700r4/3.73 (HD towing RPO). That, I dont have pictures of.

Now my current 'Burb (and hopefully till the grave) is an '80 C20 Silverado trim 454/th400/14 Bolt FF/3.73?(possibly 4.10?)
Factory exterior color was dark camel. Now its a light camel with chipping clearcoat. The front grill is not original but looks clean. The original engine has been swapped to a '91 Gen V 454 but converted to Edelbrock intake & carb. I have a toggle switch for the external low pressure electric pump mounted near the tank. It has front and rear A.C., electric rear tailgate window, a quarts (clock?) gauge but NO 3RD ROW option. Thats a definite first for me.

My 1989 GMC V2500 Suburban. 6.2 diesel. It had a "vegetable oil" kit on it, what a mess! I am removing and selling the kit. 4" block lift, new injector pump. Mediocre quality newer paint job. Rear A/C, 3rd row seat. I have big plans for it all. Best of all, CA smog exempt!!
