Re: Project "Funky Monkey"

Man this thing is going to be nice when your done and authentic. I just figured out I was going to have to drill some extra holes to mount the baggs to the frame ( not good). I have about the same amount of experience as you do. I ordered the CPP C notches and the DeNominator II baggs and there looks to be some serious hole drilling to do. How did your fit?

Re: Project "Funky Monkey"

I started ordering all my stuff thru CPP and didnt like the service I was getting so I canceled everything that hadnt shipped and sent my CPP notches back. I got my notch thru Porterbuilt and I have to tell you.... It was the best decision I ever made. I would much rather support Nate than order anything thru CPP unless I HAVE TO.

As far as installing the notch..... MEASURE TWICE... CUT ONCE. lol

That is one thing I did learn. If I were to do it again it would be alot easier. Get a good drill bit and varible cord drill. You will kill a cordless drill and if you try to use a crappy drill bit you will eat thru 3 or 4 of them.

Good luck man... Where is your build thread?

Re: Project "Funky Monkey"

Been thinking of starting one and have been taking pics of the progress just kind of a procrastenator. I'll get one started soon. Just finished all the patch panel repair on the cab. Getting frame ready for sandblasters and paint. Thanks

Well... I found that "donor truck" I purchased this truck for the running gears and the body. And while I was there I ended up purchasing an LS1 long block for the guy for $1200 . So the plans are to get the LS1 up and running, get a tranny and install them on my current frame that I am working on and then move the body over to it. I will then have the PERFECT TRUCK!

This truck has a 350 with 350 turbo, CPP 5/7 drop with mild c-notch, side fill (that I am not too fond of... I will be going to wood bed with bed fill) MSD ignition, tilt, and a few other custom things. The exhaust hanger was broke so it banged against the drive shaft. FIXED THAT. The battery was sizzling after driving it for a few minutes and it didn’t hold a charge. FIXED THAT. one of the headers had an exhaust leak FIXED THAT. Next I have to figure out what all suspension is squeaking and fix that.... it’s really embarrassing.

Here is the thread that lead me to it and how I got such a great deal on it.
Wife approved spending $6000 on daily driver!! WOOOHHOO

The pictures are a little redundant to the thread but I thought it was relevant to post them on this thread as well.

Link to a website with all the pics on it. **CLICK HERE**

And here are some of the paint defect pics... Some kinda worry me that its rust making the paint bubble up... What do you guys think?

My buddy... Damian

Had a car that did that - I feel your pain man.

How fresh is the paint on that truck?

Re: Project "Funky Monkey"

I'm not really sure... It has a few chips in it that has allowed it to start rusting and a few places that have bubbled up. It was a decent paint job... I think I may be getting a good surprise when I get it media blasted.

BTW... Did you ever fix all the squeaking?

Not really use to the editing restrictions (and I'm use to editing alot ) on these forums, sorry for posts. Also the delete option not available.

You can ussually tell if sheet metal has bondo by lightly taping it (like all down the side, or where you think there might be bondo). You can hear and feel the difference.
Fixed the squeeking by lubricating the bushings with spray litho i think, or something similar.

Re: Project "Funky Monkey"

Are the bushings poly (red or black) by chance? That would be a possible issue...they make a lubricant specific for those type of bushings...

So you're planning to media blast the truck? I know the paint's not perfect, but man, I'd see if someone could touch it up before stripping it down and running the chance of finding things you don't want to find

Re: Project "Funky Monkey"

Man... I couldnt live with myself if I did anything half assed on this truck. So yea.. I will be sending it to media blast and have it all repaired PROPERLY and repainted.

Re: Project "Funky Monkey"

Good question on the bushing material - what I was referring to having to silence was on a 2001 foreign, passenger car. lol and afterward, having to replace nearly all rotors due to severe rust. My guess is the cheap [foreign] steel.

It's definitely the RIGHT way to do it!!! It would just pain me to do it to a truck like that...I just hope it's pretty clean under that paint so there's not many repairs!

I agree. You got a hell of a deal on that truck. I don't think I could bring myself to tear it all apart though. I'd just drive it.
