I was looking for a good picture of a fleetside, and came across this one. It has a spotlight near where yours was I think.

Re: 1960 GMC K1000 4x4

Not to be a parade pisser, but.... I have not been happy with those 25% cans. Seems the ones I got run out of excellerant/pressure before they run out of paint.

Re: 1960 GMC K1000 4x4

They are cutouts so you can run open headers without having to take the pipes off. I did that on my Nova for drag racing. I could drive to the track using the regular exhaust, then take off (6) wing nuts, and run wide open for the day, then cap them back off, and head home.

Re: 1960 GMC K1000 4x4

The ones I put on my Nova came from a local exhaust shop. It was 12-13 years ago too. I don't know if they are a normally stocked item or not though. They may be ordering them from the same place you are looking at.

Those are actually ~before~ the mufflers and are called exhaust dumps.
Like Kro said, they are so you can run basically straight headers and bypass your mufflers which rob you of horsepower.
They make electric dump doors too, FYI so from within the cabin, if you care to you can hit a switch and romp on it !!!

I want to install that set up in my wife's 72 LeMans so she can trick the young boys at the stop light.... ummmm .... oops .... I mean not do anything illegal or .....
Heheh I am going to shut up now.

the robing of horse power is it just from the loss of back pressure?

Ummm yeah, not a math guy!
I bet one of the engineers on this site can tell you (and me) the specifics, but I am sure it has to do with the pressures involved.

Re: 1960 GMC K1000 4x4

still on the todo list for the upcoming weekend and week

1. Pass door panel needs wet sanded and painted with possibly 2 more coats of blue then taped off and paint the gloss black on everything that's raised then 2 coats of clear coat.

2. Driver door panel needs to be cleaned one last time then do primer i will do 2 coats of primer right off with the 15 min drying time in between them then i wet sand it and primer it agian i do this about 3 times. Then a final wet sand i use a long sand block on the flat areas where i can but the rest is by hand. Then i will do a coat of blue and do what i said to the pass side from there.

3. Drive door jam is ready to be primed but pass side has had no prep work done to it yet.

4. Driver and pass door need prep to be primed.

5.Front bumper mounts and front bumper need primed and painted gloss black going to do the grill and bumpers with a brush to give them a stronger paint job.

6. Rear bumper prep prime and paint

7. Rear axle needs one last spray down with cleaner and the hose then its ready along with the back half of the truck to be primed and painted gloss black with a brush.

8. The wheels needs prep primer and painted flat black i plan on getting all the org wheels from my 64 to put on this truck with a org looking tire as tall as i can get it with the same width of something org when the tires on there give what there worth.

and i think that's everything lol
