Agreed, but it sounds like the guy registered and sent in required photos in advance.

Re: Rejected at Car Show Marina Car Show Long Beach
I might need to re read this but I did here/read he Prepaid and I assume he read some rules of some sort if he didn't ask or read the rules then his mistake. Did not remember about any photos in advance. If photos were required then he has a right to his opinion.

I can see here that if I am reading it right HE wasn't given any rules up front but the question is did He ask for the rules or did he "even" think he had to ask? Now that's the Question here. |

Re: Rejected at Car Show Marina Car Show Long Beach
I would not go to a car show if they rejected a patina vehicle.
I like painted, and patina as well. But to reject that is ridiculous. The guy is problly one of those butthurt fellas that paid too much money on his own paint job, and gets mad that people look at the patina rides just like they do his. I love the patina, it shows character.

Re: Rejected at Car Show Marina Car Show Long Beach
Its must be confusing to know that your vision and all your hard work was just down right rejected.
You have one seriously cool truck that just about anyone would be proud too drive. I like real patina its just so hard to duplicate.now there is some very well done faked out there witch is ok if done right. what alot of people dont realize is with a (real) patina'd ride it took many yrs. Too have that truely weathered look while shiney even the best paint in the world could be done in short period. But the rusty look isnt for everyone. So ya just gotta take it as it comes. I bet at some time you'll have some schmoe approach you and offer $500 for your rusty ole'truck. These carbed ls motors are peeking my intrest. Congratulations....you have just won most bad azz rusty ride in my car show. Heres a voucher for a free crappy pattie at berger quween.

When the same guy gets the same trophy for the same vehicle at the same show every time it is put on, it becomes a joke real fast doesn't it ? As for the know-it-alls, I would just wait for them to finish their jive and then look over their shoulder behind them and ask "Where's your truck, jeep, etc?" Most of the time they would dummy up and move on. If they made an excuse I would point and laugh hysterically at them until they were so embarrassed they HAD to walk away.

Re: Rejected at Car Show Marina Car Show Long Beach
Thanks back I'm almost 50 and I'm not a clean shaven, suit and tie, in the office looking kind of guy. So this fits me very well, Just driving them is satisfaction enough for me. I have a 1972 Yamaha DT100 that will be restoring in this same way with all new guts.

Ridiculous, looks like under the hood and the floor pan should be enough paint. But guess they had their nose up in the air and couldn't see it.

Re: Rejected at Car Show Marina Car Show Long Beach
Although your truck looks very nice, that's why I don't like the rat rod look. Only about .01% of the population understands rat rods. The rest just think you can't afford to get the body painted.

Re: Rejected at Car Show Marina Car Show Long Beach
Another example of Non car people putting on a car show and why non shiny/patina trucks rule...
Last year I took my (shiny)Chevelle to a local Chevrolet dealership for a car show hosted by the local Corvette club. While waiting to park, a volunteer came over to my car and started talking to me. After a few words back and forth he put both of his hands on the top of my driver's door. He took his hands off the door so I thought "ok he realized he made a mistake by touching the car" but sure enough, he put his hands back on my door a second time. I said "sir can you not touch the car?" He then took a cloth out of his pocket and started wiping the area he had been touching(now scratching my paint with the dirt/dust that collected in the oil and dirt from his hands). I repeated "sir please just don't touch the car, it's simple just don't touch the car." Come awards time the guy who broke the "A number 1 rule of car shows, don't touch the cars" goes up and picks up his award for his 2015 or 2016 Corvette. UNBELIEVABLE! Guy has paper plates on his car, the bank probably owns the car, he touches real cars at a car show and he gets an award!?

That said, I think of Sweatbacks truck as largely a (very nice) 'patina'd' machine....which I view a little differently than the rat rods...which are, I think of more full personalized, custom machines made from a lot of vintage stuff....almost steampunk. (of which my favorite rat rod is #48 with the supercharged packard straight 8 engine in it...very cool) All Good Coley

I was sure it stood for "stink". Especially after the great milk spill of 08.

Re: Rejected at Car Show Marina Car Show Long Beach
I figure it must not have been a car show you would have wanted to go to. They did you a favor. It wasn't an AACA chapter show or something like that, was it? (I only read first page). Nice truck that belongs in most shows. It's not just your truck, the wrong truck could be taken to a national truck show. A nicely done 100% correct museum quality restoration doesn't belong at a drop fest.

Re: Rejected at Car Show Marina Car Show Long Beach
They even have a Preservation class for totally original vehicles and even show rare barn finds at Pebble Beach. If the amazingly rich understand, include and invite non fancy painted cars it makes you wonder why these small time cars show guys just don't get it.

IM on the fence about this. I spent years getting my truck pretty and nice. I pull into my first car show and the car next to mine was this rat rod rusty piece of ****. The guy threw it together and it was there parked next to mine. I think come car shows are starting to try and stop that patina look that you perfected in this truck. There are always other shows. Sexy truck btw.

Re: Rejected at Car Show Marina Car Show Long Beach
I think SoCoC10's reply is more telling than he may realize.
>> picks up his award for his 2015 or 2016 Corvette..... has paper plates .... bank probably owns ............and he gets an award!?<< The guy took a Award for something GM rolled out of Bowling Green, KY. Isn't getting an Award for the way Nature treated your truck the same thing? Sweatback and Metaldoc both built exceptionally nice undercarriages, but Nature should get credit for the rest. I have a Blue '67 and to most people, it's just a beat up old truck. The reality is, that it is just a beat up old truck. Most people couldn't tell the difference between mine and yours at 30 feet. Well, maybe 40 feet. On a scale of 1 to 10, your trucks are 12's under the patina, where mine is a maybe a 2 or if you're being generous, a 3 because it has AC and is very reliable. Thank you very much. You're taking your truck to a Car Show, why not give it a Show Car paint job. Otherwise, like Metaldoc says, if you just drive it on the street you don't have worry about it getting scratched up. My truck has looked pretty much the same for 30 years. No one tailgates or park next to it. I think they figure it doesn't have insurance and they stay clear. If I wasn't so lazy, mine would have new paint, but I sure as hell wouldn't take it to a car show where I had to pay them to look at it. It'll never have an undercarriage like you guys have so they wouldn't let me in either.
