Are you sure you don't mean solid lifter cam?? L79's were solid lifters, I'm pretty sure. Also, the L79 was the 350HP version of the 327. No "310HP" version of the 327 ever existed. Roller cam or not.

Is there a sticker on the glove box door? That'll tell you its options but I've only had one 66 with a SPID on it but that's just me.

Re: 1965 1/2 C10 Pickup
"Back then if you had connections, anything was possible" and "I was talking to my old shop teacher, and he said back then you could order almost anything if you knew the right people. And stuff like that happened too" are the most over blown or biggest myths floating around the internet or shop talk. It would help if people would substantiate these quotes with fact , especially when it comes to drive-train and engine horsepower .
About the only things you could change up were colors, options , seats , maybe extra sound deadening , tires , wheels but not horsepower. These engines were delivered to the assembly plant from Flint Mi, Built and Done ! ready to install with a suffix code to match an application and transmission. If a cam was changed it would require other parts or if anything was changed it would have its own specific Suffix code stamped in that engine BEFORE it left Flint. So , again , we need the VIN to determine year, SPID would be nice or Protecto Plate since you bought it new, would tell us everything about the truck, but the Suffix will not lie as to what horsepower that engine is , which should be 220 gross hp. In the DATA book it lists all the COPO numbers for Special Orders and they are "9000" numbers , these specific numbers will be on the build sheet and spid. There are no COPO 1966 engines listed for truck. On the 390 1965 Mustang , speaking with a ford guy , says that would take an awful lot of inner fender or shock tower modification to even get a 390 in the engine compartment. Great story tho .

Re: 1965 1/2 C10 Pickup
Your truck is a 1966 as already stated. Confirm the stamping on the front of the block. An L79 will have a VIN number stamped in the block and also an aluminum intake and holley carb , ???

Re: 1965 1/2 C10 Pickup
If it has a roller cam and lifters, it must've been added later with aftermarket parts.

Re: 1965 1/2 C10 Pickup
Show some actual truck documentation as stated above. New parts do not make a difference on what was there when it left the factory.

Re: 1965 1/2 C10 Pickup
I can order a roller cam for pretty much anything nowadays. Doesn't make it original replacement parts.

Re: 1965 1/2 C10 Pickup
My 73 had a SPID sticker on the fender well. In the glovebox on an '83 I owned. Not sure about the '66 you have though... if it has one.

Re: 1965 1/2 C10 Pickup
Sorry to differ with you but it has a Roller Cam and was verified by the machine shop. He said that he has only seen one other like it. It is very rare but they were made.

Re: 1965 1/2 C10 Pickup
Not trying to split hairs but from 67 and up I believe had the spid on the glovebox for sure. Only had one or two 66 pickups with them. That being said you still have a very desirable pickup that many on here would love to have.

Re: 1965 1/2 C10 Pickup
All 1966 up trucks have spid sheets and protecto plates . Looks like this subject is dead anyway, salty only wants to show his new cam for his 1966 with a corvette engine or whatever?

Re: 1965 1/2 C10 Pickup
All 66's came with a SPID on the glove box door. Though it seems impossible, I'd actually love it if Salty can prove us all wrong and show a SPID sheet confirming a unique engine. These stories surface every now and then, and true or not, really stir things up! Here's hoping!

Re: 1965 1/2 C10 Pickup
He wont show his glove box door and we all know why. He wont have any documentation and we know why. He has a new cam for an engine that we dont even know it's a 65 or 66 or not it's just "confirmed" by the unicorn wrangler.

Re: 1965 1/2 C10 Pickup
Maybe you got an early prototype engine build. That would be cool.
