Re: Got a new truck
i got the clutch working then i started putting wires on then need the radiator hoses and they didn't get ordered, so thurs im getting the brakelight switch, hoses, and hopefully gtting it started friday.
I went offroading in my other truck and liked the power low end, but didn't like the carb when on a steeper hill/trail it would die then i would try it again a few times then if it stalled i would just hammer down and make it look easy. I put a factory cluster in it, so it looks good, i will get a pic on thurs.

Re: Got a new truck
I worked on it a little and i only have a week till summers over so next week i'm building the cage and 4 link hopefully, but i worked on it a little didn't get much done was waiting on radiator hoses, but bolted up the starter.
just need to wire it and the batt wires, put the spark plug wires on, alt, and the oil pressure line to the back of the block. STart it nd cut the back of the frame off and cage it.

Re: Got a new truck
Hey man, sounds like your really getting serious with this thing, I wanted to ask you about your link set up.. What type of links are you going with.. Have you done your research about links? Will you watch this video? http://www.spike.com/full-episode/su...101-rock/30579
Now you should understand this question. Whats your COG? Are you going to go 3 link with panhard up front? Did you get your front/rear and total weight yet? I have spent a lot of time under my truck measuring, remeasuring and then measuring again.. Im hoping you are putting enough thought into it, and putting it down on paper (or here) really helps.. There should be a considerable amount of math involved with linking your rig. Ide be happy to help if you need any. |

Re: Got a new truck
i have thought about it i'm going to run the leafs up front and a 4link in the rear for now. I'm back halfing it and building the cage into a mini bed for a cooler for some soda water, tools and recovery gear, maybe a fuel cell in the future. BUt its going to be the 45 degree set up so no track bar, and coilovers buecause my uncle doesn't think a 1000pds weight max load will be enough if im pulling and jumping. THe 4link should work great same idea as airbaged trucks just with coil overs.
WIll i watch the video yup, tonight, my cog will be lower than my white truck, if not the same, the weight i will not know because of the back being cut off and rebuild the front i will 4link in the future my uncle wants to do it. What truck were you thinking about linking.

Re: Got a new truck
i would do the 76. it sounds like a good platform to start with seeing as the axles are already beefy.

Re: Got a new truck
THE bed off and learned to use a torch, i knew before but i was taught more about it, so i can cut anything, had to cut some bolts out. I went and got a new starter didn't fit, so put the old one back in. Hooked up the wires and tried to start it, it was cranking and fired and backfired.
CHaNged the timing and some stuff don't know exactly, then It wasn't getting any fuel so i poured 5 gallons in the tank cranked it fired and ran fine for about a minute then i turned it off, because open headers was loud. I wil get pics today.

Re: Got a new truck
thanks, and I was wondering what color i should paint it, flat black, flat white its getting a little old for me but still cool, try to paint gloss balck with spray paint or get an air compressor and paint it nice with clear to I buff it and then go destroy the paint in the rocks and mud? Some ideas would help it would needs to be cheap and look fairly good.

Re: Got a new truck
I went to the junkyard looking for a d60 and i got the right trottle cable from a really old like 30's 40's truck and got the vaccaum line for the power brakes from a van. But i found a few 67-72 chevy/gmcs some had pretty good metal, like the one in the pictures.

Re: Got a new truck
well rattle can is cheap and if done right, can look good also.
a buddy of mine is building a trazer, and he did a two tone look using a dark blue and flat black which turned out nice. total cost was somewhere round 20-30 bucks i think. its hard to do flat black from a can. lines show up easy. so gloss black might me easier. |

Re: Got a new truck
the flat black only shows lines with the base is a light color but the flat black i would to 2-3 layers, and i was thinking about buying a cheap spray gun and learning to paint on my 2 trucks.

Re: Got a new truck
I am going a dark, flat OD green!! Choose what you like, I really liked how tough the color makes any rig look. But if you like blue and pink camo... Go for it man. Make it yours!! The most forgiving color to hide scratches/nicks/blemishes seemed to be white oddly enough. So if you decide you want glossy paint (although I admire your taste in flat colors) go White!! it hides **** really well. My .02, cant wait to see the progress pics.
Also, I have noticed a lot of guys going with d70's lately due to the ultra heavy duty'ness of it.. You can find em a lot easier too it seems. But its harder to find info on em and isnt so easy as a 60 to build or have built. Just some food for thought.. |
