Re: Got a little done today....

Well today I got my new power steering pump installed to fix the squealing I had every time I turned...I also put in the new gauges, lights, sockets, and replaced the printed circuit...and to find out...that my turn signal is on when it's not supposed to be and only the right light works.....for some reason...Also had a discovery of hacked up wires EVERYWHERE and a few items that I don't know what they do since they are not plugged in anywhere

Whats that big box thing in the first picture?

Re: Got a little done today....

Got all the door weatherstripping out (besides window felt) and will be getting new ones bought soon....was able to fix the turn signal...it was a bad ground somewhere....I just pulled out the battery, vacuumed all of the leaves and twigs out and started looking around......didn't know for sure what to look for but I found a black wire that was broken, so I spliced it back together and now everything works.......I can't wait to get the truck re-wired because hunting wires is just a PITA!!!

On other news, on a trip back from my family ranch I found an old private scrap yard owned by this like 90 year old man...had to have at LEAST 30 squarebodies and tons of other cars (I even found a few Model T's and a few NICE 67 and 72s) I found a really nice red 78 that I'm going to try to go back and get some body panels off of....I really wanted to take pictures but my droid was dead at the time and couldn't if I can get a call back from the guy I'll be going there and getting pictures for all of you.....

and that's the end of another small update

Re: 77 Silverado Build thread

Got the weatherstripping in last week. I had left it out without weatherstripping for most of the summer because I didn't have room in the garage and were in a drought. Well, it rained and there had been water leaks. Oh well, nothing got wet that I'm not replacing. Didn't snap any pictures thought but hopefully more work soon. The garage doesn't have A/C and it's to hot. My thermostat on the truck read 117 a couple of hours ago. Not working in that heat. My birthday is next week so I think I might treat myself to a Painless wiring system, and getting the brakes fixed. More updates soon (hopefully)

Re: 77 Silverado Build thread

Checked out my window problem this weekend. Window was popping out of channel every time I used it. Well the door channel and weatherstripping is gone. Missing chunks here and gone there......need to get new ones but that wasn't the problem. Apparently the back track has a bracket to keep it from moving...mine was on the bottom of the door. Needless to say I "redneck" fixed it without any welding....putting pictures up tonight when I get the cable for my phone.

Re: 77 Silverado Build thread

Also I checked the casting # on the engine. PO told me it was a rebuilt 307 but I've never wanted to hassle with it. FINDING IT IS A PAIN IN THE ____. I couldn't find the # on the pass. side but I found the casting number (with the addition of a headache from my head hitting the hood). I don't think the engine is a 307 now.....casting # read 3970010 so I'm thinking it's now a 350......SCORE!

Re: 77 Silverado Build thread

Here is my "easy-fix" for the missing window track bracket. First discovered this checking the wheatherstripping out for folds...noticed something laying on the bottom of the door.......first pick is it missing track, then the bracket and the other side.......then "fixing" it without welding...

Re: 77 Silverado Build thread

I've been looking for a passenger bedside w/ the fuel door they changed to in 79 for a while. Found quite a few that needed a lot of work but last night I came across an ad in Craigslist (thanks to a thread here that brought me to Craigslist and I was like, eh, why not check before bed?) and went over to the guys house to get it. Payed $150 for a new drivers side panel and front bed support and for the passenger bedside. Really happy to be able to pick them up today. Just shows you to keep up with Craigslist if you are looking for something!!!!!

Hopefully I'll get it installed soon cause I can't wait!!!

Hey, I don't know if the guy is on this forum but thanks Andy for the parts!

Re: 77 Silverado Build thread

Got my new door channel felt on today. Too bad I was one day late on the only rain we've had for about four months Windows shut up good and now I'm ready for more rain (us in Texas REALLY need it). Got the new bedside prepped and when I get more time going to install.

Re: 77 Silverado Build thread

Got a little work done today. I didn't expect the right bedside to be much of a problem but I was wrong. Planned on getting it off and the new side on but nope, I was only able to get the first bedside off. Took me 4 hours too. I could barley get to some of the bolts so I wonder how some of the other guys on here can to some spots on their truck to. Going back up to the shop tomorrow after school to try to finish and get the new bedside on.

Re: 77 Silverado Build thread

Got a lot done today, well at least for me that is. Got the new bedside on. THAT THING SUCKS! I guess it's just my not so experienced body work skill but I spent 30 minutes getting all of the lower bolts in but then none of the wheel-well bolts would line up. Had to take all of the other bolts out, line up the wheel-well bolts and get them in and then go back and put all of the other bolts back in. The area where GM spot welded it seems a little off so I'm going to have to go to my neighbors to get it spot welded again...guess I could refer to my truck as Frankenstein now. The newer bedside had a hole that was off from what the old side was. Probably changed when they changed to the "fuel door" that I wanted. Also the pattern of indention's on the side is different. Tailgate holder/bracket thing was different to so I had to switch those to. I took a crapload of pictures for reference so I might make a write-up on how to do this for people like me so they don't get stuck either
