Re: 57 Short Box 235 5sp C4

Thanks for thoughts and compliments guys. I have the fan mounted on the inside with no shroud, the more i look at it the less i like it. Am thinking of "investing"in 2 11" fans and makeing a shroud to mount them in a stagered fashion on the inside, that way all tubes will get fan air instead of only the 16" circle in the middle. Have been collecting flange head bolts for a while now, should have plenty as long as i dont misplace them. Have the bed just about all primed and assembled for the last time i hope, bought a rolled pan for the rear but didnt like the way it fit so modified the license plate area so i didnt have to cut into the rear cross sill. Will set it aside now and continue to blow the rest apart and finish up some welding on the frame so i can paint it and start final assembly. I like the idea of the an fittings on the steering and brake conections, will do that, thanks guys

Re: 57 Short Box 235 5sp C4

I used a Wilwood priority valve with 2 front outlets, 1 rear outlet and brake light switch all in 1 unit, looks good we'll see how it works, i have 2# residual valves in all 3 lines.

Re: 57 Short Box 235 5sp C4

After my giant paint screwup priming the doors that ended up looking more like bed liner than epoxy i was PO'd so i didnt even take any pics, it took over a week to get the epoxy cured enough to sand and lots of work to get it mostly off. I then reprimed with urethane and put base coat and clear coat on the inside of them and set the aside under cover. Next is to get the cab ready and do the same to it.
I cleaned up the inside and put some epoxy under the dash, firewall and floor. Will let that cure a week or so before i attempt to prime and bc-cc the interior.

Really nice build and different too. I always like different. I really enjoy going through your build thread. Nothing like the first start with the engine installed. I was grinning ear to ear when I fired mine up for the first time.

Re: 57 Short Box 235 5sp C4

svr, I noticed on a few threads that you had used a key in steering column and shaved the ignition switch off of the column. How did you go about disabling the trans and steering locking?

I have an 80's tilt key in column and want to just use the in dash switch that I already have wired up.

Clegg, evidently i didnt take any pics when i did that, at least i cant find any. What i did was dissaemble the column until could get the key cylinder out, all the guts that operate the ignition switch down on the column and the lock mechanism. I took the cone that held the key cylinder was in and cut the protrusion off until it was close to even. I made a plug from a piece of steel shaft to fill what was left of the hole the cylinder and glued it in with JB weld. From there it was grinding and finishing the cone and reassembly. Its been a couple yrs since i did that but thats what i remember. When i reassembled i replaced the bearings and the turn signal switch and lock tighted the screws that hold the tilt mechanism. If you have any more questions let me know.

Re: 57 Short Box 235 5sp C4

I bought a what was advertised a 55-59 22 circuit wireing harness. It didnt come with much for directions but at least all the wires were marked and color coded. I wasnt going with electric windows or locks so i had to sort out which wires i needed and which to pull out and sort them into groups to there end destinations. Lots of thinking rethinking reorganizing as i went about stringing the harness into place.

Re: 57 Short Box 235 5sp C4

I bought some asphalt covered cloth wire loom and pulled the wires through rather than the split plastic loom.
