Re: My 56 6bt 4X4 build.
I have been looking for those for over a year and finally found a reasonable priced set of 4 of the full ones on Ebay. There are always over priced beat ones on there. Good ones go for north of $200, I got mine only because I was online when the guy posted a good BIN price and beat the other 4-5 guys that are looking for them. They are for 67-74 Chevy trucks and blazers. The 6 lug ones are 10.5" diameter, 8 lug 11.5". Make sure the outer edge is not cracked or they will not stay on the wheel. The front ones in your picture look like backs with a hole cut out. The factory 4wd have a dimpled profile at the hole (see pic below). I am holding off cutting mine, hopeing to get a good pair of stock ones.

Re: My 56 6bt 4X4 build.
I think I am going to try to get some of them. They look so much better than the plain later model ones. I guess because the stamping of them makes them look like the belong on the task force.

Re: My 56 6bt 4X4 build.
Well some super progress tonite. Eng is in for a test fit and to eyeball what is needed for mounts. It fits better than I thought . i will be ditching the inercooler . And will use a electric pusher fan on the front of the rad. The floor will need a smack or two near the corners of the bellhousing . Going to use the dodge rad and fab up my own rad cradle. Clutch linkage is going to need some work. Thinking I will have the linkage go back to the crossmember and then back to the trans Kinda like a GM Z bar but further back . any ways here are some pics .

Re: My 56 6bt 4X4 build.
The clearence around the Oil pan is better than I expected. Im thinking of using the 56 crossmember that was at the bellhousing on the stock 235 I6. If I move it up and use the stock dodge mounts with very little tweak if I think It can work. Going to box the front of the frame first and go from there.
Inside looks good too. The trans opening will have to be opened up up abt 1 inch more rearward. Need to move the Temp sensor on the back of the head as well. I will pick up almost a inch by moven it somewhere else . |

Re: My 56 6bt 4X4 build.
If one of the Ryan's Catches this , I just want to make sure I'm up on my wire connections to make it run. The fuel soi is located on the back of the pump near where the lines come out ? Or is it the cylindershaped thing on the side of the pump with a steel line going forward and up and behind the pump.
Also the Grid heater has 2 con on it. Are they both Hot 12V? Coming from the big relays that were mounted on the drivers fender? I saw the big ground strap on the oppisite side this is why I was thinkin the were for the power con. Thanks to ryan roo. The oil pressure sensor was exactly as you said . Took it out and the fitting for my stock gm cauge threaded rite in !. Thanks !! |

Re: My 56 6bt 4X4 build.
That all looks really good. it fits better than i would have guessed!
the shut off on a VE pump is just forward of the injector lines at the top of the head. i would think about the hydraulic clutch set up, i think they work better than mechanical and generally suck less to fab up. the toaster connections are both hot i am pretty sure. i know both on mine are. Ryan |

Re: My 56 6bt 4X4 build.
Were those just on ebay a couple of days ago? I think those will look great on your truck. I wish I could tell what size the existing battery cable is on those Dodges.

Re: My 56 6bt 4X4 build.
Yep thats what I thought. I would be in heavin if I could put the batt In the stock location, ( I'm quite sure I can ) and use the stock dodge hot wire to the starter. It's close but I think it will end up abt 10 inches too short. I have lots of batt cable and ends at work . We use lots of it for our boat rigging . I can make up some cable no biggie .
Hey a 6.2 Chevelle sounds like a cool mpg crusier with the air on ! Fun

Oh yeah i'm excited about the 6.2. I think it will make an awesome mpg machine. I'm aiming high for 30-35 mpg. Picked the engine up today. The crate it was in by itself weighs 540 lbs! Do the 60 and 70 have the same perch width as your current axles?

Re: My 56 6bt 4X4 build.
not too much to report as of lately. The Toronto boat show is abt to open and we have tons of work to do. I work for the Largest Sea Ray dealer In Canada. so not too much extra time rite now. I plan to get the rad cradel mocked up to mount the rad . then I can pull it apart again . get the eng painted and a few things done , Get the frame boxed up front and then slide the eng back in to start to fab the mounts. who knows ..... Maby it will stay in next time ????????

Re: My 56 6bt 4X4 build.
I have been worken on getting the D60 fixed up, kingpin bearings , bushings. Brakes and such. The eng comes out tomorrow nite after the first fitment. Then the front axle can get some paint on and get bloted in. After that its on to frame boxing . spend a little bit of time everyday. Haven fun and moving fwd. Dosent get much better than that I guess

Re: My 56 6bt 4X4 build.
So lots of good progress to report. Got the D60 front all cleaned up . New king pin bushings , and lower bearings. Brakes and wheelbearings too. Got the 70 rear done to. Didnt do the brakes yet tho. Still at 50 % and Im thinking abt going to rear disk. No sence buying new drums and stuff at this point . Got all the stuff painted and installed. It was way too easy. Something has to go wrong here . Look at the pic of the rear shocks. the dodge lower mount and the 56 gm upper. Fit perfect.!! Added 4 leaves to the front to help with all that extra weight.
Now on to the dodge. going to cut out the front crossmember as I thik i can make it work guite easily. just as long as it dosent hanf too low and hit the front diff. So enuf with this here are some pics.

Have you got your fan yet? What speedo pickup does your T/c have? I have to find a mechanical for mine. Then a longer speedo cable . Also trying to figure out what Im going to do with my clutch linkage. I am using the stock 56 pedals. I attached a pic. As you can see the pedal arm and the cross shaft are way off. Was thinking abt the stock dodge hyd stuff but there is no place that has a straight swing in the pedal area to push the master. I took a better look at the dodge crossmember after you mentioned it. The gm frame is wider than it but after I box the front frame rails this will make it a perfect fit. Going to cut the rivets out this wknd. think I will take the dodge front shock mounts while Im at it.
