Re: Project 54 short

I pulled the motor and pulled it apart. The block looked good small ridge on top so its getting bored .030. The crank and bearings looked great. Took the block and heads in for machine work. Having him clean, check for cracks new cam barrings put in and new frost plugs. The heads cleaned, new seals, and inlarge the spring area for larger springs.

Kinda copyin what Hot Rod did except not as wild. More on the mild side.

I am diggin the work. I am doing the same with my fenders, only
the outsides will look weathered and beat up.

Lots of space, must be nice.

Re: Project 54 short

Plinted the back side of the hood last weekend. I got the motor back from the machine shop.

I layed down 3m rocker pannel spray on the back side to reduse noise. Dont know if it will be any quiter but it looks nice in my opinion. Sanded and prmed some other things not to exciting. What im doing this weekend filling sanding blocking prining sanding. Tons of fun.

Nice! I like that green color. What is the name of the green? What did you use for the hood latch?

Keep the pictures comin.

Looks good on a short box frame, by the way.
Some pictures of the core support. Built kinda heavy, but it will do.

Re: Project 54 short

Worked on the trans hump today. The shift tower is huge on this trans. Im letting part of it go into the shift boot so its not to high in the center of the floor.

All metal work is done to the cab. I repalced..... the drivers side inner an outer cab corner, inner cowl and lower outer cowl on the drivers side also. The lower outer cowl panel on the passenger side. The passenger side cab corner looked ok so i left it alone.

The inner cowl pannel did not fit worth a hoot. I had it cut-sectioned in 6 pcs. and welded back together in order to make it work.

The doors are both fited and open and close nice. I left the stock latches and am also keepin the door handles. I had a hard time gettin the doors to fit. I found that heating the hinge in bending in works. But had to elongate the mounting holes.

I replaced the drip rails glued them on using Fusor 108b.

I have been working on smothing the firewall filling and sanding filler. But that has been going slow with lack of anbition an other things going on.

Re: Project 54 short

Diggin the build and that color. I am a Patina fan, but I really do like that green. I have a question. Where did you get your adjustable alternator shaft (don't know what the actual name would be) but the chrome one you got that allows you to adjust your alt to tighten your belt.

My alternator's shaft is too short, to run with my pulleys. I use a cog belt and couldn't seem to find one shorter. So I needed to make my own alternator adjuster shaft. Mine is 1.5" and I needed a 3". Made one, but it would be nice to have a chrome one and or a back up one in case it broke or something?

anyway, thanks and looking forward to seeing this one done.

http://marchperf.com/pg51.html#rods

I bought the kit from summit racing. Rod was to long had to shorten it. Note.. one side is LHT the other is RHT. So be careful when shoting or you will need to buy a LHT tap. They make nice stuff all stainless and billet.

Re: Project 54 short

thanks for that link.

Yeah I already made one, bought the tap and everything. I was going
to make another, but I would rather have a chrome or billet one.
