Re: rarest options?

How rare is a 68 C-10 Golden anniversary, 2wd, long (8' ft) wide bed, 396, TH400, A/C, P/S, P/B, non posi (someone that supposedly had some knowledge of these pickups told me that they put posi's in the short beds, but not long beds)???

They most certainly had posi in long beds. It would be more beneficial in a longbed since you have less % of weight over rear axle when unloaded and they are more resistant to spinning out, which posi increases your chances of.

As far as the 68 50th, its not common but not as rare as say a 50th 4x4 or SWB. The big block in a 68 is probably rarer and AC, PS, PB is not common in a 68 but probably more common than not when big block equipped.

Re: rarest options?

Looking at this Thread and saw a picture of the inside the bed filler cover. You know those can come in very handy for the rear gas tank conversions. They are great to use if you don't want to poke a hole through your already painted Fleetside.

Very rare option indeed .... here's a couple pics of the one (that I know of) in my truck.

I have a couple of those original covers if anybody is interested ........

Thanks. I think I was talking to an "arm chair" pickup expert, who knows...mine WILL have a posi when it gets going again!!! (amongest other improvements, like disc brakes, and a gas tank behind the rear end)

Re: rarest options?

how about a 67 1 ton with a 292, ofset oil bath, deluxe heater (what ever that is) it was gone before i got to the truck radio delete black exterior paint with orange interior retractable shoulder belts, bench seat im not sure if there was anything else unique about it other than some strange electronic device mounted to the inside of the roof
i also believe that finding a 292 with factory power steering and ac is quite rare as well

Re: rarest options?

I bought my 68 anniversary gold swb knowing it was fairly rare. But the truck was special ordered with black interior. It also came with a speed warning, buddy buckets and its a CST. How rare is it truly though? Has a few other options too but I'm now reading that anniversary gold trucks were/are fairly common....
I love her all the same just curious what you guys think.

How do you know your truck is a 50th Anniversary model? What color is listed for paint? 551 Gold Poly? I always thought the interior is what makes it a 50th Anniversary. But,that color paint was only on 50th Ann. trucks. That would be a rare truck for sure. I actually did a '68 that way because I liked those colors, not to try to make a 50th. But,people always asked if it was. I used 526,as used on 70-72s.

This thread has gone from rare options to rare trucks. There are rare paint/interior combos. I guess that's an option.

Re: rarest options?

That's exactly my question... The paint code on the SPID is 551 and its a two tone. But as an option it's listed with black vinyl interior along with the other goodies... I'm thinking its a legit 50th with a custom interior color....???
Pretty rare indeed, huh?

Owing to the way new vehicles are marketed today, including trucks, it's a bit difficult for some people to comprehend that GM would let you order your truck, back in the day, just like you wanted it. If you wanted it painted blue with a green or red, interior you could get it. Now, they tell us what combos they will allow.

There's an old story around my town, that said some guy went to our local Ford dealership back in '62. He ordered a new Galaxie with everything he wanted, but didn't want it painted. Seems he liked the anniversary gold that Chevy had available for the '62 car lines. When his new Ford came in, it had no paint....and, no primer either. "Oh crap, you did it just like I told you."

It's sure a head scratcher, cuz 551 was only offered on the anniversary trucks. It's called Anniversary Gold. Saddle was the goldish color on the line from prior years and through '69 till Medium Gold Poly came out in '70.

Re: rarest options?

Wish I had this info when I was younger. In the 80's I had a '67 LWB posi that had the speed minder 3 hole dash. Thught the speed minder was cool for about 2 days then got sick of the buzzing. Spent the rest of it's road time cranked all the way up. Bought the truck for $300. Blew the motor a couple years later. Sold the doors, tailgate, posi rear, and the 4 speed and crushed the rest. I think back to how stupid that was OFTEN now!

Re: rarest options?

As far as rare trucks goes, how about a C/30 or C3500 with the 13,000# option? It's a light truck with medium duty suspension/brakes/axle. And,although it makes for a rare truck,it is actually an individual option:

I would have to agree with Mel. The speed warning option U15 was just not that popular, making it hard to find.
