Here is what im looking at on upgrades right now
- Disk Brakes
- Power Steering
- Paint
- 6 inch Lift Kit
- New Rear End with a gear ratio in the mid to low 3's Somewhere between 3.73 and 3.08
- Cummins Diesel, I4 if i cant mount an I6 without doing tons of body work
- Automatic Trans to match Engine
- Random electronics (Radio, Probably upgrade the head and tail lights, Roof Lights. Etc.)
- Tires and Wheels

Im sure there is even more, cold air intakes, custom stacks, convert to all steelbed if i can find an affordable one. The list of what i would like to do goes on and on. Every pay check i make this summer, half goes to college other half goes to the truck.

Theres a guy in CT who baught a brandy new 74 chevy truck. When he got it home he yanked out the gas engine and installed a perkins deisel. Not even after a week after the swap it was loaded up and headed cross country on vacation! I was told that the engine never warmed up enough to run effecient so the owner added louvors to the frount of the grille!

As for now going over 50mph is not fun for me, Talked to my boys who are in a fraternity and they want me to be their DD. As for texting while driving. Right now my brain will only let me drive or text... thats why im no good at driving standard my brain just cant do two things while i drive

Is anybody friends with 65Crewcab in real life? He has a pretty sweet cummins set up in his truck, i know he is running it on a C-30 frame so i need to research boxing the C-10 or C20 frame to be stronger. Is it possible to mount the Cummins 6bt without cutting into the firewall. Sounds like the Chevy 6.2 is almost plug and play but it is weaker, yet cheaper. Personally what i have seen is cummins are more expensive but more durable and dependable. I will have to do more research on the differences. I would love a cummins but if it would be more efficent i would run the 6.2 if i could get one cheap and clean it up well

Get a running first gen donor, test fit multiple of times while building mounts and hope you didn't over look something. Its really hard to say...

After some pondering, im thinking i may need to take 2 jobs this summer... i dont think i will be able to do everything with only $9.50 an hour. I mean sure i will probably sell the engine and trans, wheels, seats, other parts i dont want now but will probably need in the future. Im looking at somewhere over $10k to fix up this truck. I will have to work real hard if i want this dream to come true

Here's my $.02, find yourself a truck, get it running and driving right and keep saving money and buying parts while you drive it. I tore my 49 Styleline apart and never finished putting it back together before I traded it for my truck. I lost motivation not being able to drive it for so long. I like to be able to enjoy my vehicles while I work on them. Not saying don't dream big, but try it with the gas motor, you just might be surprised...

That's the plan! just i don't think i will be able to finish it in one summer, so i will probably finish it by Christmas if i keep working into the school year. I will have to see where i can get cheaper parts. I mean a new disk brake kit from in back is just under $1,800. power steering is just under $800. Those are almost needed for a teenager like myself to safely drive an older truck like this. and thats a few weeks of working just to be able to drive safely, then i still have to paint it haha, oh i will keep working on getting lower priced goods

If you get a 2wd, you can swap the whole front cross member from a later model truck to get p/s and disc brakes. Captainfab has brackets for the p/s box and brake booster. I haven't personally used them, but I hear only good things about them.

actually, changing the crossmember may actually help me with the suspension and lifting the truck! Thanks for the idea man

I think that you are under estimating the driveability of a stock pickup. My first vehicle when I was 17 was a c10. It had a mild 350, a stock 4-speed and 4-wheel non-power drum brakes. And honestly it was perfectly fine. I slowly upgraded things on it to suit what I wanted. But it has always been a good driver.

I say that while dreaming big is a good thing, its more practical to start small and simple. Its hard to male real plans for a truck that you don't have yet
