A local guy wanted the dash out of the old cab and I took the roof off. I gave him the lower half and he may use some other sections out of it. Nice to have it out of my hair.

I stripped it and saved everything. I probably won't sell any extra parts till I get through my build. A lot of the stuff I needed as I only bought a bare replacement cab.

darn... if u even come across a good firewall and front cab supports let me know!!! will pay a fair price.

Well, I really hate to say to you that I gave those parts away, but I did (before I posted the pictures). The whole bottom of the cab was decent with solid supports and firewall. Just needed rockers and some floor work. The section behind the drivers door had been pounded out and there was mud in there and I just figured getting a clean cab for $300 was way easier than fixing the old one. I had the whole cab listed for 2 weeks on Craig's List (started at $200 and worked down to $75) and no calls until last Saturday. I finally decided to keep the roof and scrap the rest which was when the guy called me on the dash. I let him have the bottom of the cab in the picture for free for hauling it all off. But who knows, he may have some spare parts some day or at least I made a new buddy interested in these trucks.

Well I have been busy. I am at the decision point on my front brake setup. Kit or 73-87 crossmember. I posted a separate question on this in the regular 60-66 forum.

I found a spare tire fender for the short bed this week for $60. It's pretty clean, only surface rust and a few ding areas. Looking for a short bed bracket now for the spare. there is a difference between long and short.



I have the cab securely mounted with lag screws on the 4 dollies I picked up at the swap meet a few weeks ago. I have been hand stripping the paint and very happy with the condition of the steel everywhere. I got real lucky this cab's clean as a whistle except for dings.

Hey Justin, the cut up cab is not the one I used. The one on the dollies is all original and rust free (never been patched) so I used it vs. the original cab I got with the truck. Nobody had any interest in the old cab so I just cut the roof off in case I need a clean roof down the road someday.

I am getting serious on the chassis now and I am on the hunt for a donor front cross member from a 73-87 truck. If anyone has a good line on one in AZ shoot me a PM.

I just PM'd CaptainFab to purchase his power steering and brake booster brackets. I think I will swap in some dropped spindles and 6 lug rotors from Summit as well.

My truck came with a power steering pump from a 73-87 but it was not a clean installation.

Thanks TJ - the weather is so gorgeous here in Chandler this time of year I don't get up north much but I miss my trucks up there!

I located a 1/2 ton 1987 Suburban front end today. Picking it up tomorrow. I have to drive about 90 minutes to get it but it seems real clean and includes the PS box too. I will likely swap in 2.5" drop spindles and need to get 6 lug rotors - probably all from Summit.

I have been looking through a bunch of the old threads but can't find what I am looking for. I am putting an S10 T5 behind a 292 using the adapter plate I posted earlier in this thread. Do I need a high hump to accomplish this?

I took a ride down to Tucson and picked up an '88 Suburban front frame clip with all components for $200. The guy parting the truck just cut the frame at the firewall so it came with everything attached including HD disk brakes, PS box, shocks, all linkage, etc... I have a couple of brackets for the booster and gear box ordered through CaptainFab and ordered 6 lug rotors from Summit. May wait on the drop for now and just get everything going. It's not all that much harder to change ride height later vs. doing it now and this is a budget build.

Gotta love nice sunny Saturday mornings! The old front is off. I may just strip some parts off it and scrap the rest - I can't imaging anyone replacing a crossmember with a '63-'66 model with all the better options out there and I have limited working/storage space at my house.

Good progress this weekend. After getting the old HW off yesterday, I got the new front end separated from the frame clip this morning and kept and bagged all of the HW. This afternoon I started prepping the frame for the new crossmember and other coming modifications. I stipped the reusable old parts off the '64 crossmember and hauled the rest to the scrap heap.
