Bagged, how low will it go with standard cnotch. Any pics???

Hey fella's, I am already lowered 8 in the rear with a static drop.. I have a standard style c notch already installed.(Similur to a cpp) It looks like I have about 3-4 more inches to go before I will bottom out. I am wanting to bag the rear for now, but I am having a hard time envisioning how low it will sit. I know that it will not lay frame or anything but I am wondering if its worth the money and the hassle to go through with all the work for 3 more inches.

I will bag the front eventually but for now I am just gonna stick with the rear. I don't plan on putting a super c or any major frame work in the rear.. I plan on putting the bags in place of the springs.. Any pics of your work or If you have pics of your truck while aired down please let me take a look.. Stepside pics would be awesome too.

how did you get it the 8 inches with static. looks like a block and coils right? I am about to do mine I like the stance of yours

Yeah 5 inch drop coils and 3 inch blocks. But its still not low enough..

I understand that. if you take the coils out and see how it sits on the bumps. if it isn't low enough do a bigger c-notch

Here is mine a 65 Shory. It is bagged with a CPP notch in the rear and a set of thier 2 inch blocks. The front is still stock spindels and arms so it has a little lower rear. Hope this helps.

When you let the air out does the axle sit on the notch or does the bag stop it from hitting. I was thinking about putting my bags in back of the axle? What the advantage of a watts link?

The axle bottoms out on the bumpstop. Of course the bs is only a quarter of an inch. The advantages of a Watts link is that through the whole range of motion the rear doesnt move like it does with the panard bar. I think it moves less than a quarter of an inch. With the rally wheels on the rear I dont have and problem with rubbing.

I'm no Pro at this at all; but if you put the bags behind the axle you are going to hamper the lift ratio correct?. The further you put your bags from the fulcrum the less they will lift. You'd be at a 1\.8 or something.

Yea daverod the truck is laid out in the first pic. I am using Firestone 2500's up front and 2600's in the rear.

I have been thinking about doing an air over leaf on my '80...
this pic leads me to believe that you would get lots of axle wrap with a single leaf spring though....


I have even been kicking around the idea of putting '60's trailing arms and cross member in it, I know CPP has a kit, but I think I can get the original stuff for free....they say it greatly improves the handling of the squares.....

I showed this picture because he had clearance issues. I could get the most travel with this set up. This was a S-10 Blazer with just a "C" notch. To cure axle rap they have traction bars that will cure that. The leaf spring is the stock spring that I took the other leafs out of then got it de arched. They are just there to hold the axle in. The bags do all the work.

I run a monoleaf setup on my Astro van and fixed the axle wrap with a set of cheap traction bars from Summit Racing. But my van only has a v6 in it.

Can I use the CPP trailing arm setup on a 63 GMC with leaf springs? Will the crossmember bolt into place and would I need a different axle to run it?

If you really want it to go as low as it can I think air bags is the only choice you have. You could sell your coils and offset the price a little and you don't really need a complex setup.

alot of the astros came with mono-leaf that pic is a typical coil pack with all but one leaf removed....

I would think the CPP X-member would be fairly easy to put in your '63 frame, the frames are the same from '63-'66...I can't imagine the frames them selves were much different from coil to leaf spring trucks. CPP also sells conversion perches to put practically any rear diff into a rear coil sprung truck, they are specific to the trailing arm suspension, and are angled

Yeah, mine came with the composite monoleaf but I switched it over to the steel spring pack and used only the main leaf.

@ ruffrida, I don't have the truck yet but I'm pretty sure the springs are on the outside but the front mounts may hang lower than the rest of the frame, keeping it from laying flat.

yeah the cal-tracs for my truck are very cool, but quite expensive....kinda negates the savings of using the stock spring as an axle locator.....maybe I will just do a 2 link...

You will need a pan hard bar with a 2 link. Or the best thing would be that watts link.
