Re: 1966 GMC Truck Project

I finished inside my cab today; dash - wooden bezel, wooden clock/radio holder, new knobs, handle for glove compartment (old harley davidson bolt), rubber door lining installed one side, new seat belts installed, A/C vents painted and reinstalled, and GMC door sill plates installed.

Keep up the good work.
Kieth, didn't you show us the same pic twice? or could it just be me--I'm old & gettin' older

Re: 1966 GMC Truck Project

Got the seats all reinstalled. Replaced the bolts on the inside door panel, and put the front bumper back on after having it re-chromed! Sent the front grille to get sandblasted and then painted a matte-black, it was just more affordable than having it de/re-chromed.

Looks like a good time to paint the white accent band that surrounds the grille

Re: 1966 GMC Truck Project

After not getting the grille de-chromed, I consulted some of you in this forum and heard back from Mark regarding what I should do.

So, I took out the grinder and started in on the chrome! It is not easy that is for sure. After several hours of grinding I started having second thoughts about the task, I went from grinder to sander and back again several times; at times the chrome came off easily and at times it just did not want to come off! You can see that it looks a bit rough, I actually like the look now, but not sure if it will begin to rust up on me. I got it to where I can live with it for the time being, and gave it a good cleaning and clear coat.

I will probably leave it for a few weeks and then tackle it again, or just give in and pay the money ($340) to have it de-chromed and re-chromed!
No, don't think so! smile. Here are some pics of the work I did today; got the letters on, the grille on the truck, took off the mirrors and cleaned them and repainted them... not a bad day!

Thanks Piratexpress. I drove the truck to work today! I can see it from the window! Nice. Looking to drive it up to dubai-bike-week festivities this coming weekend.

Ok, that is why I was confused when I did not see any white accent band. Thanks.
