In '68 I was heading to Ft. Benning Georgia . Getting ready for an even longer trip ( 173rd Airborne brigade, border ranger,RVN '69-'70) Ended up staying in for 6 years. My old man bought a '68 swb step side in '69 with about 600 miles on it from a bud of his. Then pop bought another car and decided he didn't need a truck. He sold it to a guy he worked with in early '70.This guy has had the truck every since. He always said if he ever got rid of the truck he would let us get it back.I called him about every 5 years asking if he wanted to sell the truck ,But the answer was always no.About 6 months ago I called this time he said " well I guess I will go ahead and give ya'll the truck back" I said "cool man I 'll come on up and we will get together on a price" He replied" No ,I said I was going to give you the truck back come on and get it".Ya'll might remember the post with the black '68 that everybody said it was the only one they had ever seen with factory trim on the cab of a step side.Took me over 30 years but I got this one back.

In 72 I was 10, and since it's almost fall, I was getting ready for my first hunting season. Poked lots of holes in the sky with my single shot .410, but the dove, pheasant and quail were very safe!
Dad had his 69 or 70 C10-and I drove on the highway for the first time that year! Gotta love rural Kansas and moving farm equipment from field to field with whatever child was avaialble to drive!

In '69 I was a sophomore in h.s. Still had my paper route and worked after school at a local grocery. My father retired in December of that year and bought a new VW bug for $1838.00 cash. I learned to drive a 4- speed in that car under his watchful eye. Actually it really would chirp the tires going into 2nd pretty easily. One of my teachers had a '67 CST long bed fleetside and from right then, I knew I had to own one eventually. Best lookin' trucks on the planet.

my dad had just turned 16 so i was a ways off but my truck was purchased new by my grandfather in late summer of 72 and i am the second owner. i remember my dad saying he was afraid of the newfangled 4x4 and thought he was going to bust the frontend off of it so he wouldn't drive it much at first then a few months later he bought a 67 4x4 k20 that he painted fire engine red.... i really wish he'd have kept it

Tin soldiers and Nixon's comin'.
We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drummin'.
Four dead in Ohio.

- CSNY

I shouted out,
Who killed the kennedys?
When after all
It was you and me

- Rolling Stones

And it's one, two, three,
What are we fighting for ?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
Next stop is Vietnam;

- Country Joe and the Fish

Great vehicles, horrible period in US History. Was in grade school/ Jr High and watched a lot of nightly news.

My trucks are 67's & I was born in '73. I was a few eggs up the chain & my dad was thinking "I think we need to have a boy, these two girls I've had so far have been nothing but trouble." & that was it & shortly thereafter, along I came. The first time I sat in my green '67 was 1980 & I & my uncle drove to the water treatment plant that he managed in town - Kenton, Manitoba.

Oldest? Youngest?

OK this is a pretty big group. I just wanted reassure myself I wasn't the oldest guy on this list. The oldest person posting enough actual numbers to calculate was 49. But I stopped doing the math after the first page or so. I think some of our Vietnam Vets beat that. I'm almost afraid to guess the age of the youngest pup behind the wheel, but I'd start the "bidding" at 16. So what about it? Who's the Oldest; who's the youngest?

1972 - Soiling myself, most likely, and trying to master that walking thing. It really doesn't sound a whole lot different than today.

LOL, this is a great thread! I see many of you weren't even the glint in the milkman's eye yet. I was 11 yrs old in 1970, recently moved from Battle Creek, Mi. to North Bay, Ont. (airforce brat). I guess I remember a bit of trouble and strife living 100 miles from Detroit. But I was too busy being a kid.

1972 I remember it like yesterday. I was 23 years young. Rocking to the 8 track. First tape I bought was The Guess Who.
