Re: Your Truck Plans for 2012
Back in August, the therm. stuck and it overheated and boiled too much water out. I tried to get it home instead of stopping to think. The engine got VERY hot, which thinned the oil. The end result was 3 wiped cam lobes, several burnt lifters, several weakened valvesprings, and a stretched timing chain. The entire month of October was spent pulling the engine and replacing all this stuff, but it still didn't run right. Put a degree wheel on it to make sure I had it all installed correctly, which it was, but the engine is very hard to turn by hand. Without disassembly, I don't know exactly what the problem is, but the rotating assembly is in a bind somewhere.
I'm not sure if I want to go LSx at this time or just stick with small block.

Re: Your Truck Plans for 2012
I have so many things to do I'll probably have to put my motor swap off til '13, but thats ok, I've got the 350 runnin pretty good. She will still roast the tires(tire, no posi, yet). I'm gonna do lots of welding and grinding, bed swap, new rockers, prime and paint. And sand and sand and sand... Move some weight to the back(battery, tank), full interior redo, new wheels and tires, steering box, and other assorted goodies. In '13 might get to a trans and rear rebuild and a big block...lots to chew on. Have a good year fellas, thanks for all the help in the past and in the future, Tim

Re: Your Truck Plans for 2012
I already started my 2012 plans. Cleaning out the fuel tank, putting in a bunch of sound deadener, new carpet and jute and generally sprucing up the interior. Then after that, I have plans for a 350 V8 > 250 I6 swap, but not until a bit later this year. I have a piece of property to clear, a well and septic system to put and a shop to build. Too many things to do!

Re: Your Truck Plans for 2012
I have like four tons of scrap steal, a few old motors and a few chevy pickups that I will never realistically do anything with. My plan is to sell as much stuff as I can and find a clean, all ready to go 71 or 72 chevy pickup. probably a 4 wheel drive pickup, but we shall see what comes up. definately a buyers market right now. the 68 and 71 I have now need way to much work. time to just buy something that is turnkey.

Re: Your Truck Plans for 2012
Well, were do I start..... putting interior back in, new sound system, relocating fuel tank to under bed (have a tank, thanks Craigslist) and installing a new dual plane manifold and 750cfm carb.... other than that little things here and there. But 2013 we get a new paint job.

Re: Your Truck Plans for 2012
Finish the blocking my truck and take it apart to paint it piece by piece. Still have to sell the step side bed and get a good swb fleet side and install my 5.3 with heads and cam in to my 69 and hopefully install some 20x12 and 20x8.5 billets.

Re: Your Truck Plans for 2012
Geez Greg I wish I would have known you were wanting buckets/console, as I have had an extra set lying around my place for ages now. Hevy_chevy67 just got them so at least they went to a board member.
As for myself: A: I would like to think this will be the year the slime pile moves without thee assistance of a towtruck or winch, but honestly I doubt it. Unless I can find a complete 71 to rebody mine, it will just sit as it needs every single panel including the roof and it just isn't worth doing. B: Find a use for my pine needle catching shortbox soon. I have a frame I have been trying to get forever from Minnesota, just hasn't worked out yet. Maybe next week I will make a real push to get it.
