Re: '63 GMC Project

We changed the rear cab mount perches out with some 1/2 ton perches I got from Tony (Lilred66) and replaced all the cab mount bushings with new urethanes. It is finally sitting on the ground now too.

Well I Measured the distance from the axle to the cab mount for you but unfortunately I measured from the 3/4 ton mounts and not the 1/2 mounts and the 3/4 ton mounts look a little wider, sorry. It was close to 56" like you said but we moved my axle back a little to split the differenced between the wheelbase at ride hieght and laying out. My lower links are about 35-3/8" from bolt center to bolt center. that may change when the pinion is completely dialed with a driveshaft in it.

Re: '63 GMC Project

Thanks man, the truck looks sweet. You gonna get it on the pinch or the rocker. I'm thinking about laying it on the rocker since I have to cut the trans tunnel anyways, whats a little extra metal to cut out of the way.

Re: '63 GMC Project

It wouldn't be that hard, maybe just hit the urethane cab mount bushings with the belt sander, but It sits fine for me now.

Re: '63 GMC Project

Got a few more things done. Installed the swaybar, test fit the rear caliper brackets and painted the centercaps for the steelies I'm going to run for a while. We also painted the rest of the frame (except the very rear, untill we get a fuel cell test fit) and rear suspension parts but haven't taken any pics of it yet.

The swaybar:

Re: '63 GMC Project

I went to a swap meet yesterday and picked up some new door seals and an air intake for the 63, but the real magic happened at Summit Racing on the way home. I finally ordered my motor, a 405 hp Blueprint 383 longblock. Can't wait 'till that bad boy comes in so we can go pick it up.

Thanks guys.

It will be hard to not smoke the skinny tires that I will be running for a while, that's for sure.

Re: '63 GMC Project

One day I'll drop mine, but man, I do love the look of airbags. Can't wait to see it on the road.

And hey, all those unemployment checks that they withheld and then suddenly sent me payed for those wheels and tires on my Blazer. And it only took half of what they owed me. They just didn't think I was looking for jobs until they saw that I got one.

Re: '63 GMC Project

Ok, time for an update. We have been working on it, just lots of little boring stuff like brakelines and painting little parts. But today was a pretty good day. The new tires are finally mounted and the motor and tranny went in today. We also rolled it outside to see it in the sun.
