Re: 48 Build Pictures

looks much better than my vintage air set up. it's nice to see it stuffed up in the top of the dash.

Re: 48 Build Pictures

You can check the dimensions on the Southern Rod website. They have a virtual catalog that shows a lot of detail. It fits under the dash nicely and I have my wiper rods in and looks like I will be ok on space. I am going to have to modify my glove box area as one of the outlets is pretty close to the glove box. I don't think it will be too big of a deal. They have an internet special on these right now and you also get a $50 credit you can use for something else. Don't know if you are supposed to promote anything on this site, but you might check out their ad.

Re: 48 Build Pictures

I will try to get some better pictures. I may raise it up just a little more and I might be able to avoid the glove box issue. I will keep you posted.

Re: 48 Build Pictures

heres a shot of the vintage air system in my truck. i think what he has in his truck is way better since you can't see it.... mine still allows the use of the original glove box but it's a tight fit.... say Building 55 can you still use the cowl vent with this setup?

Re: 48 Build Pictures

Greg -

At least you left yourself room to work. I modifed the brackets with the same unit you used and tucked it up a little higher under the dash. I am not 100% sure I can use an original glove box.

Wow that is low. Besides the glove box - what is above it, dead space?

Re: 48 Build Pictures

Yes, just dead space above the glove box. I think now that I have the wiper setup under the dash I can probably raise this thing another inch or two. Probably will mess with it more tonight.

Re: 48 Build Pictures

My cowl vent has been welded shut, but the cowl vent is all there and in the closed position under my dash. I actually and hanging the AC unit from the hinges on the old cowl vent. So, yes, you should be able to use the cowl vent.

TYPO - Mine is hanging from the cowl vent hinges. I think my previous post left out a word or two.

Re: 48 Build Pictures

It's been a while since I posted anything. I got the truck painted this weekend and started buffing today. I have a lot of buffing to do. There are a lot of parts to one of these trucks. But I took a couple days off this week, if I don't decide to go fishing instead.

Re: 48 Build Pictures

Wow, you have really got that truck looking great. I think a few more clips (or what ever one calls them) on the plug wires will keep them neat and away from the firewall. I need to do that on my 71 that has the same distributor.

From looking at the photo of the inside and answering someone's question about the single brace on the inside it appears that the (or a) previous owner swapped cabs on the truck at one time. The 47/48 cabs have a inner panel running around the lower portion of the back panel to add support for the single center rear cab mount. This one is probably like mine and a bunch of others in that it got a cab change sometime in it's life but it did get the Deluxe 5 window cab in the process.

I sure like what you are doing with it and bet a lot of others will too when you take it out to play.

Buildinga55 what did you use to build the rear shock cross member?

Re: 48 Build Pictures

The guy I got it from already had the shock cross member in, I would have to measure, but I would say 1 x1.5" rectangular steel tubing. Got home from the races tonight and my wheels were on the porch. I don't get this excited at Christmas. Well wheels are a bit more cool than socks and underware! Hope to have the wheels and tires on next week. I have some of the wiring done and have the engine mostly plumbed. Still have the front clip to put on . Wanting to get as much stuff done under the hood first so I am not leaning over the fenders. Still need to get the rest of the glass in and figure out an interior design.

Re: 48 Build Pictures

Making a little more progress. Got the stance pretty close and most of the truck wired. Hope to start it in a few days.
