Re: Finally starting the 68swb fleet
I used the "grand slam" kit on my truck as well, and did 5.5/7 just like you are doing...it looks really good when installed and the parts are really good- I think you'll be happy with it. Good luck man!

Re: Finally starting the 68swb fleet
so any pics? I'm a total picture whore, I'm ordering boss 338's in the grey finish with 255/45zr20's to keep the frame off the ground, roads are awful where I am. I am very happy with my notches and the tubular tranny mount, installed the notches in under and hr if you take away the frame repair and painting time and the tranny mount is a direct bolt in, and Jeff... can't say enough good, get stoked just bs'in him on the phone and the discount etc makes it worth while for sure

Re: Finally starting the 68swb fleet
been on the shelf doing nothing for a few days, my black engine enamel arrived today, dropping the control arms off tomorrow to have the lower ball joints pressed out, so I can have them ready for all my parts(UPS says tomorrow or friday for the grand slam, trailing arm rebuilds, misc other parts show up. Received som more chrome/polished aluminum pieces today and now once the new parts are painted I will be able to teardown and reinstall some parts on the motor along with the cam kit, intake, timing set and distributor. The chrome is all temporary as I said before so flame away

Re: Finally starting the 68swb fleet
6 of 8 boxes came in from CPP, 2 more tomorrow then I will pull out the boxes and post some pics, funny how a few days off from the project you get behind the ball, not that a project is a job and you should feel obligated, but we all know how that goes, shop never got to the balljoints today but tomorrow the old come out saturday the new lowers get pressed in and over the course of the weekend there will be a few updates but the slam and half of everything will just be getting paint until my cross shaft kits arrive next week along with the following week's 5 bolt conversion. I did do a test runon the black paint and settled on that route, looks good and it was prepped with marine clean no brushing or anything, when done right, should look great, may order my wheels and tires next week or aluminum heads, leanig towards wheels and tires so it's atleast moveable. Tomorrow will be full of pics, it was like christmas coming home to all these boxes

Re: Finally starting the 68swb fleet
How's you power steering box, I have a 2 spares if you need if yours is worn. Also have 2 stock trailing arms which are not rusted through, a complete draglink assembley which does not seem to be that bad. Otherwise I think they might get recycled into the scrap bin with all the rest of the stuff.

Re: Finally starting the 68swb fleet
thanks, trying anyway, never did a full frame off or a 2wd so I'm not too used to actually caring about how the final product looks just the useability an strength of things, hoping it turns out well when I'm done, didn't realize what I was getting myself into but having fun anyway. Much rather do a 4x4/crawler build anyday, but I love these trucks, it's a sick addiction hahaha

Re: Finally starting the 68swb fleet
There's a few of us suffering the same symptoms
-like to look threw parts catalogs -get excited to see the UPS truck, or FEDEX truck -urge to get grease and dirt on us -feeling of pride, when you get something the way you want it. -thinking several step ahead of what will be done next. I think I got it as well!!! Spike

Re: Finally starting the 68swb fleet to stepside
After multiple degreasing, marine clean, super clean, brake kleen and some scrubbing I laid 4 coats of VHT caliper paint in gloss black, painted the rotor surfaces as I cleaned everything to prevent rust off them and they won't be used for another year or so. Not alot of progress, pretty hungover today, hoping to get the trailing arm reinforcements welded on and painted tomorrow then it's on to drivetrain

Re: Finally starting the 68swb fleet
as soon as the cross shafts come in and the trailing arms are rebuilt and painted, ordering my wheels tomorrow I'm hoping as long as they're in stock, could have a rolling chassis in a few weeks if all goes well, and then it'll be too cold even with my dual propane heaters to do anything in the garage

Re: Finally starting the 68swb fleet
You say your putting on a step side, what did you do with your box? Where are you getting the wheels @? When i checked the 338 Greys in 20x8.5 were readily available but 20x10's were not. Went on a beer/quad ride today so I got nothing done.

Re: Finally starting the 68swb fleet
traded the old box for a welder dor my garage, a buddy is doing a ratrod/slam it together and drive it project, it was shot and beyond repair with my ability, I had planned on a full repro fleet until I picked up my cab and the guy has a stepper with new parts and is repairable for $1500 even has a NOS tailgate for it. Rims are going to be from an eBay store as Tire Pro can't get any til spring in either side and the other guys are too expensive and take forever, going with 20x8.5's with a rear spacer. I didn't do a whole bunch myself and was in a bit of a mood after all the cleaning before I could paint haha hangover was winning the battle

Re: Finally starting the 68swb fleet
Just got off the phone and they're ordered and being shipped within the next 72hrs, 20x8.5 Boss 338's the newest production run requiring the least modification to run, alon with 255/45ZR20 Kumho ASX tires, I know they're cheap tires but this isn't a race or a show truck, just fun for me cross shafts are supposed to be here wednesday so I'll be able to install the grand slam as long as the trailing arms are rebuilt by then, now I'm off to get my control arms with the shiny new ball joints and lay some paint on them also waiting on a repy from the ebay store on roller rockers and 210cc aluminum heads

Re: Finally starting the 68swb fleet
wanted the 20x10's in the back but they are hard to find right now and boss isn't producing more until the spring and the rotating issues of different sizing isn't something I want to deal with, going to look into some 1inch spacers for the back to push them out a bit, back into the garage as soon as the heaters are in full force, paint the control arms, drill/install the bolt I somehow overlooked on the c notch, coat the back sides of the trailing arms with POR15 so I can weld the braces tomorrow and final coat them in either black or silver, leaning towards doing the control arms and trailing arms silver, possibly the calipers as well, don't wan't to bring attention from the truck, but with the rim choice I think it'll look better than the black and on othr build I've seen it looks pretty good

Re: Finally starting the 68swb fleet
upper and lower control arms got 2 shots of rust sealing primer, sandblasted prior, but why not go the extra mile, 1st shot of silver now it's bed time, tomorrow the trailing arm rebuild and the final silver coats then if all works out wed the cross shafts come in and the drop can be installed, heads and wheel/tire combo are about 2 weeks from delivery, so the motor and tranny are next in line for teardown
