That lacewood is beautiful, do you ever have to worry about the wood warping in different climate changes? I'm considering putting a wood bed in mine as well

With a fresh coat of spar varnish every year it should last forever.

Re: Lets see pics of wood beds.......

I have a rusted steel floor and am thinking of replacing it and putting wood. What would I need besides the wood?

Re: Lets see pics of wood beds.......

Wood Beds. They are so cool. I made mine right from the rough cut lumber, right from the mill. I am a woodshop high school teacher who build this bed with my students. I would like to extend the offer to make one for anyone on the board for only the cost of the materials. You can see mine at www.projectkillerbee.com
This would be all the wood needed for your truck bed.
You can get me via the email on my build site.

That bed is super clean! Makes me almost wish I had done it like this. What are your specs? Paint color? Clear if any? Is there a different paint on your strips than on the wood?

If I have to do it again I will probably go this route.

Nice job!

I don't think it will warp, but I'm not sure. Mine's been done for about a year now, but it sees limited use, but has held up well so far.

My bed is 40 years old and looks like it was new. It was painted for 38 of those years.

Re: Lets see pics of wood beds.......

Here's another one. This is the oak wood with 6 coats of marine finish on it. First 5 coats were applied with a sponge brush, sanded in between each coat and sprayed the final coat.

Re: Lets see pics of wood beds.......

Automotive Clear is batter then Marine Varnish. Varnish will turn yellow. I use clear coat on the Kayaks I build. it is harder and lasts longer then any varnish.

Re: Lets see pics of wood beds.......

I used a spar varnish which has natural UV blockers in it and I believe the product we used had more blockers added so I don't expect any yellowing. I can't remember the brand at the moment but will try to track it down. Mar-K trucks has some great info on the different finishes and what stands up better than others. You should check out their website... It's pretty interesting.
