Re: Going to look at this Ochre beauty tomorrow. Thoughts?

You guys missed my update on page 2. No truck for me. The guy was too tickled by the eBay auction response to give in and sell it early. I went there Wednesday night, at he ended it early last night. Someone must have either offered him a figure he couldn't refuse locally or one if the bidders offered a figure to end it.

Re: Going to look at this Ochre beauty tomorrow. Thoughts?

Thought I'd update this that I got a truck! Didn't end up with a 67-72 so I won't start a new thread in this section. I found this '64 listed in Washington and drove 280 miles to get it and drove it all the way home. Pretty excited. I'll post a more detailed thread in the 60-66 section once I take more pics. Thanks again to everyone who gave input on my threads and helped me be more comfortable buying a truck.

That's one of the nicest 60-66 I've seen.

thank you!

It was pretty cool driving it home I got about 15 honks and thumbs up by people passing me. It didn't really occur to me that I may get any reactions from other drivers until it started happening. With 4:10 gear three speed I camped out behind the slow semi trucks the whole way home and let everyone else zip by in the fast lane.

With the 4.10 gears and the 3 speed it would be a good candidate for a 5 speed OD trans swap. I used an S-10 5 speed in my '67 with the I6 and it was pretty straight forward. Didn't have to mess with any of the clutch linkage. The only things I had to do was replace the clutch disk with one out of an Astro Van, get a 1/2" adapter plate, (between the bell housing and trans) and shorten the drive shaft. Works like a champ.

Man, congratulations. That really is a beauty. I like the red and all the chrome

You'll want to add power brakes ASAP. You don't need to do disc. I'd hate to see some jerk pull out in front of you and you can't stop in time, and smash up that beauty.

Thanks a lot. I knew as soon as I saw this one, I had to act. I emailed the owner the same day he posted it, took time off of work and drive 280 miles to get it. I refused to miss out on at least having a chance at it.

With the wider wheels and smaller steering wheel it's a bearcat to steer. I'd like to add seat belts, disc brakes up front, and power steering eventually. Just to make that much more enjoyable to drive.

Edited-just saw your addition. Yes I definitely want to do that ASAP. So you're saying add a brake booster to the existing drums?

Ha! That's awesome. Next month I'm going to take it to a meet up in Creswell called "cars and coffee". Let me know when you're here, maybe we can meet at the drive in restaurant in town or something.

Nice truck! As far as upgrades go, from experience if on a budget i would suggest adding a power booster to the existing drums first. Then ps. You can always add discs as well. Another nice swap is to either add an overdrive to the existing trans or swap the rear to higher ratio. My dad had a 71 GMC with a 250 6 cyl 3 ott and 3.73 rear. I found a 3.07 posi on local c list for $100. You might have a harder time finding a six lug axle and just swap gears.

Any idea what the 72 went for? I would be willing to guess $8-$10k.

That's excellent! I'll seize the opportunity to pick his brain then I really want to enjoy this truck with my son, so the safer I make it the better I'll feel toting him around in it. Seat belts and power brakes are on the top of the list.

Great information, thank you. From what little I've read so far about adding a brake booster to the drums, it seems fairly straight forward. I'll look deeper into it.

Ya know, I wish I knew. I haven't talked to the guy since that day. He wouldn't mind if I called and asked him but he was going on a trip a few days after that and still isn't home. Since he ended the auction early, I wouldn't be surprised if someone offered him around 7k to end it.
