to keep from chipping paint on wheels when taking off caps, slide in a putty knife then slide screw driver on top and pry this way it doesn't chip the paint the putty knife takes the abuse. saw this in my 48 fleetline manual...

Re: 1965 K20 My Latest Find

Hey 60-66, I have a question on finding new 17.5in tires for 3/4ton trucks. Where did you find yours for your trucks? I presume you might be putting new ones on the really nice 65 k20 you have but wondering where did you locate tires like those?

Congrats on the beautiful truck!!!

Good info Randy, some of these you can actually grab and pull off to.

THANKS!! On the Panel I located them used from another member but they are available from Yokohama, I have several sets and like their tires. The 4x4 has 17 inch, those are proving to be difficult in this exact style. They are available in 17.5s.

Ha! Thanks Clem but the Wife is getting a new kitchen top to bottom in the next few months so a building is out of the question . Athough a Cities Service gas station on the front of my building may happen soon . Its fun to dream ..

Re: 1965 K20 My Latest Find

Wow that is just a beauty Jon. I was just out there in that area at Big Mac in October helping a friend build a new place northwest of the lake and he told me about this truck later after I got home. Lewellyn Fire District I believe was taking bids on it and I came close to going out there just to take pictures and look it over. He told me that truck was bought in the fall of 1964 and was ordered to replace an earlier totalled Blue Creek rural fire truck that killed a fireman on a fire call in 1964. Glad you got it as my friend said the opening bid seemed high to locals but there was a lot of room to go from there in my opinion.

Can't wait to see it all cleaned up. Oh and I have 3 take off 58-66 tailgates and one even factory red but sorry all are fleetside! I'll keep my eye open. Mark

Thanks Mark. Location is exactly correct. Yes opening bid was $7500.00 . I won by a little over $400.00 . The other role over was fixed and repainted I guess , picture below was taken by Sodly. Its a 1961 K20. Think the mileage on it was 31,000 . Only reason they sold this one is because the tank leaked. They are slowly replacing these trucks with newer trucks. I have the original title dated Sept 16 1964 and it never changed.

Thanks for keeping an eye out, have quite a few takeoff fleetside tailgates for trade if looking for a speciphic color and a mint early GMC step tailgate I don't need that would trade also.

Re: 1965 K20 My Latest Find

Pardon my ignorance, but, was there any additional mods under the truck to protect the fuel lines and fuel pump? Different rubber brake lines? The wood on the bed?

Re: 1965 K20 My Latest Find

Ignorance Pardoned . Seriously though, nothing seems modified or heavier duty than factory in these pictures below. On some of my earlier 4x4s I've seen a sheet metal pan under the front area but I have not seen it 64-66 . I'm thinking it was more 60-62 ?

Re: 1965 K20 My Latest Find

I just love it. That is one of the nicest original survivor work pickups I have seen in that vintage. Did you find an original red paint tailgate for it yet? I have been keeping an eye out everywhere I go. Great find and preservation.
