Re: Making an engine stand, the overkill way

the usual load is .035. i run .045 for some things at work, but for some reason my machine likes the smaller wire. it is an inverter power source that will make plenty of voltage, but something about it just welds cleaner with .035. at home i run .035 too. the MM250 will do it with 045 but i dont work on anything that needs that big of filler at home.

hopefully i can get a finished and loaded pic this weekend. im getting antsy to hang an engine off of it.

Re: Making an engine stand, the overkill way

so, i painted it and re-assembled it.

then i pulled the engine and mounted it up to the stand. very anticlimactic. i didnt see much if any deflection when the hoist sat it down.

it rolls like a dream and turns over with almost no effort.

Ronnie, this is how the rear main housing is accessible.

Re: Making an engine stand, the overkill way

what's with the matching pieces laying by the torque converter? Are they part of another adapter? This thing looks amazing! It makes the engine look small!

If you look closely at the pictures, you can see my failure.... i tacked that square tube in when i welded it to help with the weld associated draw. then i just decided to leave it. it wasnt planned for when i designed it for the reason i had to cut it back out. it made it impossible to get close to the engine hanging from the hoist. one of those, D'oh, moments... hahaha. i had spare pink for touch ups thankfully

Thank you sir! i may pick your brain one of these days! i will start tearing it down for new seals and gaskets, maybe today. i need to get some containers to organize it all as i pull it down.

I gotta admit i was expecting some killer custom paint airbrushing or flames, after all your skill set up to now has been unparallelled.

i wont claim to be un-artistic. there is a lot of what i think of as art in the fabwork i do, but paint... uh-uh. I can try to spray paint, never with any kind of consistency, but anything artistic will look a bit like I was having a seizure instead of actually trying my best...

Wow, nice fabrication work!

What's with the pink primer, and what color are you planning on covering it with?

Just kidding. It looks really good.

Re: Making an engine stand, the overkill way

That's the only 4 digit(likely 5 depending on how you value your time) engine stand I've ever had the pleasure of seeing. Really nice work. I have to ask, why the cutouts for the casters? Is that just aesthetic or is it to lower the center of gravity. Just curious. Nice piece. Did you buff it out before you mounted the motor up? Haha!
