Re: Post pics of your Neat Old Stuff!

Those original coolers go for stupid money here in the UK as they are very "Scene" amongst the VW guys.

Heres a teaser of my garage and some of the assorted old tat I seem to accumulate. Picked up a couple of more items whilst I was over in France this month, a "Piles Wonder" enamel sign as it made me laugh (Pile is french for battery and this was a big brand over there) and old I guess 1950's enamel road sign for loose chippings and some more vintage oil cans.

Cool Re: Post pics of your Neat Old Stuff!

Don't have much but I do like see the old stuff. I love seeing something 50-100 years old come back to life and be used for it's orignal purpose. Our son's bed is over 150 years old and we still use it today.

Here are my cooler's.

I also have my grandmother's 150 year old bed with stool and matching bedroom suit. The head board almost hit's the ceiling in our house. I also have the piano my grandmother and my mother both learned to play as children and sewing machine that my grandmother made all 7 of our first communion gowns on.

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Post pics of your Neat Old Stuff!

I rediscovered my childhood train set a few years back. As a result, my toy train passion was rekindled and I began to acquire antique rolling stock.

This working locomotive and its tender are model No. 6 Lionel Standard Gauge , built sometime between 1918 and 1923.

This was my Mom's stove. It is a 1948 Wedgewood. I still use it, I cooked a Thanksgiving turkey in it last Thursday. There is no pilot for the oven, it has to be lit with a match.

Re: Post pics of your Neat Old Stuff!

I recently got my hands on a South Bend lathe from the 1917 era. I emailed the South Bend Lathe Company with the serial number and they told me it was built around 1917 anyways. No exact records though.

Originally built for a "line drive" machine shop, someone had built some brackets and mounted an electric motor.

It even came with some old cutting tools and wrenches. It also has a milling vise and a bunch of change gears for threading.

The machine seems to work fine, it has a bit of play here and there and it is pretty messy from oiling it. But the power feed and power cross feed both work, as well as the threading.

It's fun to mess around with, and can come in handy at home with fixing things or making new parts. But at the same time, I am having a bit of fun with fixing it up a littlle. Need to clean up the brackets that hold the motor and stabilize the motor a bit better. That and have the motor hooked up properly for forward/reverse. As it stands, if I want reverse I have to spin the chuck in reverse when starting

Picked this up as part (very small part) trade when I sold my 65 Cutlass
Not sure I'll keep it. Good size rotted area but still pretty cool.
Square chain. Lights work and has motor to spin (flash) lights.

Re: Post pics of your Neat Old Stuff!

A few more pictures of some bits and pieces in my garage

Couple of old French Michelin tyre pressure charts, the left hand one is plastic and from the early 80's, the right hand is tin and dated 1965

The white sign with the red writing came from a WWII military fuel store.

Assorted old enamel signs

This one is double sided

I need to get out into the garage and snap some pictures, I have a load of vintage oil cans with the oldest a 1930 Mobiloil Gargoyle can, a 1930's Marchal fog light, 1930's warning triangle, and other bits and bobs.

This is something I keep toying with rescuing, its a 1960's Henon brand caravan (travel trailer) its at my parents holiday home inFrance and is derelict but largely complete.

Re: Post pics of your Neat Old Stuff!

Heres a few more pictures of the caravan, outside and in. Biggest problem is that the towbar has been cut off flush with the front so it'll need at least a replacement welding on if not a new chassis.

I think the wheels may be Citroen wheels. These were made from just after WWII to the 1970's transitioning from aluminium to fibreglass at some point. This is a galss one so probably 1960's, they also made different sizes.

Some new stuff gone up in the garage over the last couple of months, some I've had for a while and finally unpacked after the move, some I acquired last year. I have a date booked with an electrician friend of mine to come and help me get the place wired up in a couple of weeks time for beer and curry, and the paid electrician will be connecting the house end of the underground cable next week so I will shortly have lights and power.

1930's Essolene Petrol enamel sign

French "Pile Wonder" (battery company) enamel sign, my Texaco clock I got for christmas (modern repro) and my old shell anti-freeze testing station

old oil cans

oil jugs and tins

Vintage warning triangle, old Bib brand (made by Michelin) oil can and my grandads old spray gun complete with kilner jar on the bottom, I have the electric air pump for this and its dated 1947!

repro esso oil drop girl enamel sign I got for christmas.

French roadsign

Old bosch sparkplug display stand the red sign came from a WWII fuel depot,

old enamel roadworks "loose chippings" sign proably 1950's looking at the car!

Rather beautiful repro Lucas Lights enamel sign my wife bought me for christmas

Re: Post pics of your Neat Old Stuff!

This is the only "neat old stuff" picture I have handy. It was given to me at age 3 or so, back when they were still heavy cast iron and pretty much indestructible. You could make man legs peddling this thing up the sidewalk. When I was 5 we moved across the street, and I loaded my wagon all day until the job was done. When I was maybe 12 I took it apart and bundled everything together in a box so that I could restore it for my son, if I ever had one. Well, I didn't get around to restoring it but I did have a son and my Dad drug it out. He had a great time fixing it up, I think it brought alot of good memories back to him. He gave it to my son for his 3rd birthday. Dad said he was starting a new trend among tractor restorers - John Deer Yellow ghost flames I don't get too attached to "things" but you would have to fight me for this!
