Re: Let's see some van love!
I've always had a soft spot for vans. When I was growing up my stepfather had a early '70s van. It was called, "Strange Brew." I so loved this van. This was in the 90s and nobody really cared about them. I like vans, trucks and wagons.

Re: Let's see some van love!
My dad had a nice (76 77 78?) Dodge cargo van he used in sales. It was white with nice tires and wheels. If I remember correctly it had a window in the sliding door and a matching window on the opposite side. The interior had two buckets and that's it. Everything behind the front seats was just bare metal.
We would empty it out of all his junk (lol) and go cruise Colby in it. Trouble was, it only had the two seats. So we would toss in enough of those crappy folding lawn chairs to give everyone a place to sit. LOL, can you imagine doing this today??? I remember we would pull over for hitch hikers just far enough away for them to have to run up to the van. One of the guys would be leaning out the sliding door telling them to hurry up. Soon as they got close enough we hit the gas and left em cursing at us. lol One time up on Colby one of the guys thought it would be funny to stick his bare butt up against the back window, girls were in the car behind us don't ya know =) So we are putting along and he is bent kind of funny trying to get his bare rear in the window, and what would any good friend do? Hit the brakes. Bam he hit the metal floor with a thud, his pants down around his ankles. Oh man we were all busting a gut (except him). He struggles to get up so he could pull his pants up and I romp on the gas sending him flying. Geeze with friends like us who need enemies lol. He is still one of my very close friends to this day. I think we met around 40 years ago. Don't worry he nailed me with a few good pranks over the years too.

Re: Let's see some van love!
I got to use mine for one of its intended purposes.
The van was loaded with tools, lumber and house parts and I didn't want to remove them so it had about 1000 pounds in it and off we went. The trailer weighs 2200# and the new truck weighs about 3150#. That adds up to ...alot. On the way down, empty trailer, 180 miles, no interstates, 14.6 mpg. The return trip was not as good at only 9.4 mpg. Pretty crappy but was a good trip. The new truck is a 46 1/2 ton panel that until a month or so ago was sitting in the same spot for right at 50 years, yes 50 years. That means it was only in service for 19 years. Hopefully it will be going under its own power by the end of the winter. We shall see. |

Re: Let's see some van love!
There is a post over on the 67-72 truck area asking about a decal package on a truck. I found the brochure and posted it. I was looking at it and noticed the van ... I had seen that somewhere before. I had been looking for something interesting to do to my astro van and saved a pic ... Thought this would be kind 70s retro cool, turns out the stickers were a factory thing.

Re: Let's see some van love!
Buddy has a 72 dodge 3500 van. We are putting a fuel injected magnum 318 w/engine quest heads in it right now, already has the overdrive auto swapped in. He re-did the whole interior with carpet, an A/C unit on top, generator out back, motorized bench seat/bed in back sitting on a box with dual 12" subs, a couple component sets and all run from an ipad in the dash. Everything including the seats were rebuilt and are new. Programable LED lighting and some 33" offroadish tires on black 16"s round it out. He'll be putting in a couple tanks under eventually, trying for a 30gal jetski gas tank and a 10gal water tank. I'm not a van fan but his rig is fairly cool.

My '92 G20, looking kinda sad. I've been neglecting it. It's been sitting at least a month. Battery is stone dead, spare is flat.

Have you heard of or seen what the Japanese are doing with Dodge vans?
