Re: Project Overkill 1968
I'm on ctsvowners and follow the V pages on FB but I'm not very active. Mines an 09 6MT with just a few mods. It looks pretty rough right now... It's on daily driver duty and I stay too busy to keep it clean like it deserves. It's a fan****ingtastic car though, one of the most fun cars I've owned.

Re: Project Overkill 1968
Im on ctsvowners but not as active as I used to be. I don't follow the FB pages. The trash talking on some of those is even worse than the forums. Mine isn't a daily so Ive been able to sink a small fortune into it to the tune of right at 700whp. I agree its a great car. The most fun Ive ever had on the streets
This is how mine sits most the time Sorry for hijacking the thread. The build looks sweet. Cant wait to see the outcome. |

Re: Project Overkill 1968
Annnnd.... The daily needs new tires again. This is really eating into my truck budget haha. Seems like it's only the rear tires that wear......

Re: Project Overkill 1968
I moved on to the front of the frame and finished the Z and added some speed holes to the crossmember.

Re: Project Overkill 1968
I decided to fix a few spots in the frame. One was a weird notch that someone cut at some point, and I removed the hump on the passenger side. The notch was actually patched before the engine went in, so I apologize for being out of order.

Re: Project Overkill 1968
I found a Saginaw 525 box for basically free, so I rebuilt it. I have a power steering setup, but the manual box fits the theme better.

Re: Project Overkill 1968
I took a break from the truck for a few weeks to build a bike. This was built almost entirely with stuff I already had laying around. Total investment was around $200 I think. Not too bad. It may be the only bagged, 4-linked, chopper bike in existence. Not sure, but I've never seen one like it and everyone who sees it tries to buy it.
Since finishing, I've been riding it a lot getting in shape and spending time with the family. |

If you wanna point it in another direction...mash the go pedal!

Re: Project Overkill 1968
Yep! Full spool in the rear too, so it'll slide around when I need it to!

Re: Project Overkill 1968
The truck had reached a point by now to where it's far enough along that I can't walk past the garage without stopping and staring. I'm loving how it's coming together! I know the pro street look isn't for everyone and an LS would be faster and more reliable (hell, my daily is probably gonna be faster) but man I love the look.

Re: Project Overkill 1968
Time for some rubber! MT Sportsman front runners. These were surprisingly easy to mount.

Re: Project Overkill 1968
The rear wheels were delivered, so now I can mock everything up and start to narrow the axle.

Re: Project Overkill 1968
I had to narrow the axle 5.5" each side to fit the tires I want to run. Jigs are stupid expensive, so I made my own.

Re: Project Overkill 1968
I went with big ford ends to eliminate the c-clips.

Re: Project Overkill 1968
I cleaned the housing up and stuffed some Moser parts in it. 35 spline spool, cap studs, support cover, Richmond gears, etc.

Re: Project Overkill 1968
A quick call to Moser and 3 days later I have custom 35 spline axles for a 12 bolt with Ford ends.

Re: Project Overkill 1968
I picked up some new fenders from NPD. The fit is terrible, but they are at least solid. Both sets of original fenders I have are 70% bondo. My helper was super excited to start making it look like a truck again. Or maybe it's just the Sonic Blast. Either way, she was excited!

Re: Project Overkill 1968
I cleaned the rear frame up and slid the narrowed axle under it. Nice to finally get somewhat of an idea of what the stance will look like.

Re: Project Overkill 1968
Once the axle was narrowed I needed a little break so I moved on to some small detail stuff. I polished my headlights trim rings first... This was tough because I want them to look old but not dingy so finding the right level of polish and getting them to match took a while. Before & after pics below. I think this is just right, still has some of the scratches and pitting to show it's age but doesn't look faded and oxidized.
Next I added some holes to the watts link. I really like the speed hole look so you'll see more of this throughout the build. |
