Re: MY little Project....
What I have been using on all my drilled out factory rivets are 3/8"NCx1" flange locking nuts and bolts. A little more money but I think they are worth it. Grade 8 is a must. Works out to be about $1.00 a piece at fastenal. One last thing don't forget the locktite.

Re: MY little Project....
Lookin good. Is it sittin low enough for you? to me it looks like rear could come down a liitle more? Or is it just the picture? Did you use washers with the grade 8 bolts? For a cosmetic upgrade you need to look for some stainless wheels liners. There are lots around. Or if you are changin wheels never mind. But lookin good. Hard works rewarded in the end. Keep it up. I found you some interior trim if interested.

Re: MY little Project....
Nicely done man! So it looks like you did a shackle/hanger and removed some leafs in the rear. I wonder why yours is still sitting up high? This is where mine sits.

Re: MY little Project....
Couple questions.....
I noticed in one of the pictures you still had the stock u-bolts for the axle. Did you have to take the axle apart or did you just cut the overload spring and leave the piece in the stack? Did you modify the ribs on the floor of the bed? Posted via Mobile Device

Re: MY little Project....
So my awsome adventure on droping the beast:
Thursday: I desided to do the rear first. So i unbolted the bed an tail light wireing so i could use the block and tackle to lift the bed off the truck. while i was in the bed of the truck i hooked up the chain an rope i was using to lift the bed. went to jump out of the bed and my foot got tangled in a rachet strap and i face planted out of the bed on to the shop floor(i was the only one around th whole place)so i layed on the floor for a few minutes. after that it was pretty stright forward lift the bed off pull the truck forward jack it up and start tearing into it. did the shackles first they were pretty easy. next was the front hangers from hell. all the rivets were easy to shear off and punch out but the bolt that goes through the spring pack eye let was in there pretty good.so as you can see fro the pictures i had to cut the hanger off so i could use my air hammer to bet the bolt out (it took for ever!) was going to bolt the hagers on that day but dude sold me wrong bolts.so ended thursday with everything done on the rear minus bolting on the rear hangers and shocks. Friday: Woke up jumped in the vert and ran to town to get proper bolts/pick up tie rods, ball joints, adjustment sleeves and bearing seals and grease. came home bolted the hangers together, threw the shocks on truck was now back on the ground. cleaned up so i could load the bed back on. with the bed back on i was now ready to get the front started. started tearing it apart.got everything all unbolted go to taking the caliper off (No flipping clue how to remove it LOL never done this style before) cousin billy came over to help and he had actually just done breaks on similar truck. so from here on out everything was pretty stright forward with getting it done got the passenger side all together started the driver side but got late so we called it a night. Sat: woke up started putting the ball joint in and tie rod with adjustment sleeve.billy showed up and did the bearing while i did the shock an got everyhting ready for the spindal. had everyhting bolted back together around 2ish.Front was way out of wack (allignment) so we did a tape messure allignment. after that it was bolt the bed down, hooked the tail lights back up. than it wa test drive time!!! went for a quick cruise round the block trying to settle the suspention driver side did. went back home grabed my twin brother (needed the extra weight on the pass side) went down the road hit a lil dip and the pass side settled.so we cruzed around abit got looks every where we went. So thats my adventure. kinda boring but it was a fun one and i would do it again in a heart beat. Only thing diffrent i would do is take more time and clean and paint everything (but i was on a time line shops getting re wired for all new lighting)

Re: MY little Project....
Started out with some comedy eh. Face plant.. lol... I hope your allright. It was also kind of funny with the calipers obviously you haven't done them before. The more you do it the fast you will get , its all about the experience. This is were the senior members come in for the help when the younger ones are stuck.

Re: MY little Project....
safety glasses dont get in the way as much as loosing an eye. hate to preach but I've had 4 eye surgeries on my eyes for having stuff in them (slow learner)
now because of all the digging in my eyes I have lots of scare tissue and I'm starting to go blind in my right eye. so take it from some one that didnt like wearing safety glasses and now is regreating it now back to your truck I'm woundering if because of the amount of springs you had in the pack if they have more of an arc then the std 1tons springs and thats what holding up the rear end

I would think that they would settle over time especially with the reduced springs but maybe not! I am amazed how much higher it sits then mine! I forgot to ask,did you install a wedge for the pinion angle? Posted via Mobile Device
