Re: 56 made2drag

i know some people that talked about removing rust the way it shows in the video but i never paid that much attention to it...... it seems like it works tho even if took a cuple days to remove it there is no rush anyway...... it looks like it needs work bro but is all doable i think your biggest challenge would be rust but i seen worst keep at it and like they said dont give up they look sweet when their done...

i hear ya! yeah, this one will definitely be time consuming but worth it in the end. i have my 86 and 78 somewhat how i wanted them to be without breaking the bank, so im going to focus on my 67 and 56 now. i like having a bunch of chevy's that need work, rather than just 1 finished one. i have lost interest in "finished" ones in the past.

Re: 56 made2drag

ok, so my buddy was loading up scrap to go to the recycler...he was going to scrap this ford 200...i paid him the price of scrap (30 bucks) and he says well if you want the motor i have a c4 auto to go with it. he says the motor should run with new points. the transmission is fine and he knows it doesnt need rebuilding and he thinks the motor is fine too.

should i drop this in the chevy? is it worth the time and hastle? anyone out there put a ford straight six in theirs? i havent done anything with the 56 lately. not sure which way i need to go. but another motor in the near future is out with 4 trucks and this one being a back burner project.

guys, would putting a ford in my chevy really be a sin? i have a couple of buddies that could help me drop it in with no problems. i could make motor mounts and get a driveshaft made. obviously it's not ready for a motor yet but i could start working on the 56 and get it drivable by early spring

Re: 56 made2drag

you see a lot of chevy motors in ford, dodge, reo, vw, etc...
you rarely see other brands in other brands other than the sbc
they are reliable, cheap and you can buy parts anywhere
as a customizer, i won't tell you what to do with your truck
but if you do, you'd be laughing stock at any show

yup, mustang II suspension and ford 9 inch rearends are excepted but ford motors in a chevy are a no, no

if it ever makes it to a show....the hood would be shut...i guess i was just wondering if it would be an easy swap or not.

thanks for the heads up...i knew it wouldnt be well accepted

Re: 56 made2drag

so a friend and i got the bed off...he took it and a couple other small pieces of scrap to the recycle scrapyard. the bed came out to be around 300 pounds mostly because it had a sheetmetal floor someone welded in years ago. 37 bucks in metal.

so i'll continue my hunt for a 55-87 box....55-87 were basically the same except for some mounting holes. im keeping the rear fenders and will see how they look wirebrushed, straightened and Raged. 55-66 fenders are the same, so if mine are too far gone i should be able to find some more. best case senario...find a nice painted 87 bed box then buy new fenders

Re: 56 made2drag

im thinking i want to pull the front sheetmetal off, then the cab. put the cab on a dolley to start patching. send it off to get sandblasted.

i've also been thinking....maybe i should keep the suspension mostly original with new parts...static drop it as low as i can then channel the cab floor to drop the body down over the frame to get me closer to the tarmac! maybe a 3 or 4 inch bodydrop? im keeping steelies so turning my wheels wont be a problem.

i've bodydropped a mazda bed 5 inches before, so i think i can handle bodydropping the cab and bed and also handle the bumper/core support. it will be awhile before i start any of this....due to time and 100 degree weather and 90% humidity
