Re: My 12yr Old With Her New Truck

Pretty cool and congrats to her.

You should be able to score a 700R4 pretty cheap. It might need to be rebuilt, but I can usually find them in working condition for about $150 or so.

On a side note - whats with the F*rd towing the new treasure home ???

Re: My 12yr Old With Her New Truck

I cant wait till my son is old enough to start building something with me, at 2 1/2 he just wants to hit things with tools, but he loves trucks always points em' out. It gives me hope that kids still wanna do things like that with there parents, kids these days are getting outta control. You got yourself a good kid... good luck with the project

Geez, Bob...I kept passing this thread by...did not see your name attached to it. Here is my daughter in her '67 short step learning to drive. She punished a few trees in the pasture during the process. We had to buy her a reliable new car for school...not enough time to restore the old stepside. Now she claims I owe her a restored Blazer when she graduates from college...LOL!

Wish you were closer...I have a ton of free parts for her truck. You should be VERY proud!

Bob, that is totally awesome, great thing you are doing for her.

My dad never supported my truck habit, I am seriously thinking about sending him this thread, but it might cause another mid life crisis on his end.

Then again... lol

Bob it is neat to see the truck and that she is of course as always being raised to see that it has more meaning if you do it yourself and not fed to you on a silver platter. Way neat I will look forward to seeing her get it finished in time for good guys in 2012. See ya neighbor. BTW how did the water pump turn out . on the old HEEP this weekend?

Re: My 12yr Old With Her New Truck

My Boy is a little younger, but he loves our new 68. I bought a 69 swb a few months earlier that I am selling now. He wants us to keep both of them . It's gonna break his heart when I sell the 69.

I was hoping you were closer. I have a good running 250 that I was gonna give to your daughter.

nice man. glad you were able to get the frame. hopefully the 19th works out and you can come up to get the 292 for her.

i like how leon's new toy made a cameo in those shots. I still need to get out there and check that bad boy out.

That is awesome that you and your daughter will have a project to work on together. IMO, Good brakes are the BEST investment for new drivers. Now that you have that 1/2 ton running gear, you can find some 71-72 disc brakes and I believe you can swap the axles for 5 lug instead of swapping the whole rear end, so that you bolt patterns match.

Re: My 12yr Old With Her New Truck

Buy her some size small welding gloves, safety glasses, face shield, a small angle grinder with a box of flapper wheels and 3M discs (not wire wheels, though, they will turn her off to the project as they can get away from you) and turn her loose on the frame. Cheaper than sandblasting and will make her appreciate the truck more. In my experience, kids are less likely to tear stuff up if they have their own blood, sweat and tears in it. My dad brothers and I stared fixing up a 71 El Camino SS for me when I was 13, and by the time I was old enough to drive it in '86, I PAMPERED it. None of my friends got to drive it, even though they begged, as even though it "only" had a 355 with a Comp Cam, 462 heads, Edelbrock intake headers and a Quadrajet off an OLDS 455, it was the fastest car in town. Even faster than IROCS and Mustang GT's. I did take them for a few "joy rides", though.

Re: My 12yr Old With Her New Truck

this is a totally off the wall question for "lock doc".. How much room is there in between those two buildings? from the pic it doesnt look like much, so i was wondering how much of a PITA it was to hang the siding

sorry just a random thought

lowriden58: There is about 30" between the buildings. The big building was done when I bought the property and the small building is a converted corn crib. I did have some problems installing the siding and soffetts but it wasn't all that bad. It just took longer than the opposite side...
