Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

Ha Ha. I noticed today that I have an original door key and a newer ignition key. I also have a gas cap and toolbox key. So 4 keys for this truck lol. Too many. I'm going to order a set that has it all, door locks, ignition, glovebox, and I'll see if I can get a lock off of another toolbox door rekeyed like the new ones. We'll see how it works out.
The tailgate band and mirrors are on their way. Hopefully they'll be here soon. Still no paperwork (title) though.

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

I got my stainless mirrors from budnikguy and they look good. I painted the 90 degree pieces since they had some surface rust on them. I cleaned them w/ a brillo pad and cleaned w/lacquer thinner, painted them w/chrome paint.
I also got the tailgate band in from a member. I tightened up a couple letters, put silicone on the letters studs so the washers that hold them on won't vibrate off, cleaned it and straightened a little push up spot on the drivers side. Just like new now.

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

Great looking truck. Have you considered wet sanding and buffing the paint?? CC69rat's GMC is a great example of how you can save old paint. Might wanna look into that, saves a ton of money. Either way it's a beautiful truck. Also I have some drivers quality upper tailgate trim I'd send to you if you were interested

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

Thanks guys. No I didn't Rus I'll check it out.
Andrew, I appreciate it. I have some tailgate upper trim. I just need to polish it and drill holes for the fasteners. I think i need to buy some new ones. someone sprayed primer on the lower part of this truck and the upper driver bed side so i don't know whats under that. I might try that later. I thought I had found a houndstooth seat cover for it but it turned out to be black and white. Its being cleaned by a friend and will be sold or traded to get another seat cover thats brown like the original one.

That is true. I remember it wasn't too bad with the white ones though. But I don't think I'll let my wife pull it in or out lol.

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

I found a hitch at the junk yard. Its a class III Reese. I like the way it tucks under the rear bumper. Tried my hitch/ball. I think it'll work fine. Its not buttoned up yet just test fitted. I have to make two holes bigger for the right size bolts and I'm going to paint it while I have it down. Not bad for 31.00

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

Yeah it sure does. Its funny sometimes what people do on these trucks.

I got the lock set in today. I'll be able to put my passenger door back together now. I've lubed up the window regulator and door hardware so they work smooth now. I'll work on it tomorrow evening. on the drivers door I still have to correct the 6x9 speaker cut out and put the speaker in, then I'll do the same treatment on the hardware. Still haven finished up the tailgate or hitch. I have 3 jobs going at once lol.

What are your plans for the speaker hole?

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

Someone cut it out but didn't cut it big enough for the speaker. And the speaker was mounted from inside the door. I'll cut the hole to the right size and replace it with a sony that I have. If your going to mess it up at least do it right huh?

Haha true. I had the same thing in one of my doors, only one for some reason?? But from the sounds of your post I thought you were going to make a patch and body work it to look stock.

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

I always kind of hated to see a truck with the doors or dash cut for stereo stuff. On the other hand, if it wasn't just a hack job, you can have a decent system at a fraction of the cost oand headache of working around the limitations of one that is factory.
