Re: wierd cooling system problem noise ?

Whatever works, I'm glad you got right. Your way should be really good for an AC truck with the cut-off valve in the line. Here is a picture of mine before I installed a new heater core and plumbed it in. It's still the same except now the water runs through the heater core and back to the pump.

Re: wierd cooling system problem noise ?

I got the same setup as k30. Vortec heads and serpentine drive. I never had any problems. This thread made me think so I did some investigating. The ONLY time I don't have flow thru the block/pump is when the thermostat is CLOSED AND the A/C is ON! That's because I have Vintage Air and it uses a heater block off valve that closes of the heater core when the AC is on. For that one rare occasion, I went ahead and installed a bypass hose (see pic). Kept it simple-less than $5 in parts. Problem solved.

sun soaked . . . same rpm intake and arp bolts no less and temp sender in the bypass port .

i guess i am the unlucky guy the first 2 didnt work good and it needed the bypass port direct to the intake .

I'll say it again... those hubcaps are bad luck. Take them off and send to me.

That engine is a 1965 model 327 (or 283?), using a bypass? Old style heads? Hello?

Re: wierd cooling system problem noise ?

That factory bypass was used on mostly medium duty trucks back in the day but some light duty trucks came with them also.

Re: wierd cooling system problem noise ?

Good info. That's something I never realized, so it's not new for small blocks. Interesting.
I looked at 5 different 60's small block cast steel intakes on eBay they all have the bypass nipple attached. I never noticed that before.

Re: wierd cooling system problem noise ?

The factory small block thermostat bypass you posted a pic of, actually uses a piece that installs under the thermostat housing which the bypass hoses attaches to, What you were seeing on those 5 cast iron intakes is likely the heater hose nipple.

Re: wierd cooling system problem noise ?

I am losing my MIND trying to read and learn all of this. So far Google has me deep down a rabbit hole haha. So, I think I can run a regular reverse flow long pump (Like from a TPI 3rd Gen camaro) and just run a nipple in the top of the water pump to the 3/8 NPT water bypass in the front of the Edelbrock Vortec intake that I have?
