Re: I'm legit now, and I want your powdercoating business

Where is your shop located at in Springtown?
I work in that area a couple of times a month.
I will have a pair of valve covers to get coated in the near future.

Good luck with your business venture. You might try passing out some cards at the Decatur swap meet this weekend to drum up some business.

I will be out at Decatur buying all the core parts I can so I can get an exchange program going for common 67-72 truck parts.

No problem. I just lay down a coat of primer powder before the color.

I have a rent house on 199 that I go by pretty often, and I use a post office box in Poolville, so I'm through there almost daily.

I haven't seen where it has been asked yet, but can exhaust manifolds be powdercoated and does it last? If they can, then what colors are available. Thanks and good luck.

Hart_Rod, here is a picture of the ultimate chrome I use a lot of. It's as close as you can get in powder. The required clear coat tends to mute the chrome effect. This is a steel substrate obviously, but aluminum looks the same.

NuBomb, yes, there are high temperature powders. Here is a link to my supplier and their color selection of hi-temp powders.

Thanks for the pictures. What are your thoughts about spraying the clear over polished aluminum, such as headlight buckets?

I'm happy to do it, but I will be straight up, the clear powder will mute the sheen. I have talked personally to the manager of my powder supplier about their recomendations, and bought several different kinds of clear powder, but there is no denying it, the parts looks super until you clear them and then they loose a noticeable amount of sheen.

In the P/C biz, there are a lot of guys selling uncleared chrome powder. With just the chrome, the sheen is unbelievable. It absolutely stands shoulder to shoulder with true chrome. But, in the long run, the metallic element of the chrome powder will begin to dull and tarnish due to exposure. For long term longevity, you must clear the chrome. If I didn't, I couldn't stand behind my work or look myself in the mirror.

Do you have any pics of coated exhaust manifolds? How durable is the powder?

BTW your parts look great! Do you ever travel to the DFW Love field area? I may be able to get some parts down there randomly.

I'm near color blind in some shades. Here is my supplier and their selections of colors. Tell me if you see one you think is a close match.

Tx Firefighter, I got the door and hood latches you did for me in the near chrome finish. The powder coating was beautiful. I'll be sending more parts your way.

Thanks again,

Wes

Re: I'm legit now, and I want your powdercoating business

Tx firefighter,

i have a set of "nerf" (step) bars that are chrome. Can they be powdercoated in white? i'm afraid the powder wont stick to the chrome.

if it will stick, how much to coat two step bars, and two tripod mirror mounts?

Can you do the ramhorns so that I don't have to grind them smooth just blast them good.
This color.
RAL 7024 GRAPHITE GREY

Can you put a filler on them to smooth them out?

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Powdering chrome is no problem. A huge majority of powdercoating work is coating chrome Harley parts. The coater just has to be diligent and etch the chrome very well with the blasting process.

I'm happy to do ramshorns. I blast them very clean prior to coating them. As far as the filler, I don't know of any filler powder that will withstand the heat. It would just be a cleaned, coated version of your current manifolds, pits would still be there.

Kevin,

Do you suggest me going over my ramhorns with a flapdisk prior to sending them to you for PC then ?
