Re: Bringing home 69 Pete

Is this a recent pic, do you know where it is right now? I'm thinking the Bertoline, can't read the whole name paint skeem is exactly the way I'm going to redo my blue and white. Do you think these two trucks are one in the same?

Re: Bringing home 69 Pete

Those old Pete's are beautiful looking trucks. I am a CDL A driver and would love to have the opportunity to own/drive one of those one day, but not in the cards (yet). Keep the pictures coming!

Re: Bringing home 69 Pete

One of my favorite photos, I wouldn't change a thing on this 351, has single exhaust, single air horn, single head lights, narrow front bumper, diamond hole steel 2 piece rims, bias tires, long wheelbase, only thing I would add is the missing Peterbilt emblem.

Re: Bringing home 69 Pete

Thats a great shot, thats the kind of photos I'm looking for, keep digging. When trucks were trucks and logs were logs, the first truck they put me in was 51 diamond T, wasn't safe enough to be on the road but it was. Two weeks later the boss brought me a 1957 351 with new red and white paint job, 262 with 5 and 4, hendrickson rubber pad and 10 yard box, man I was in tall cotton. Hauled asphalt all summer of 73 or 74 in Steamboat Springs. Glad I ended up with 288 tilt hood, my shoulders wouldn't like a butterfly anymore.

Re: Bringing home 69 Pete

Thanks for posting more original ads Peanutbutter. These are the trucks that inspired me into the hobby. Present day trucks ( or the last 30 years or so ) where its all about aero dynamics and efficiency, are of no interest to me. Anbody notice how Peterbilt front bumpers seem to grow as they get older?

Re: Bringing home 69 Pete

factorystock, I thank you for helping move this thread along, your input has been great. You solved the issue of why my 288 is pink from the factory, I hope other people are enjoying the pics and info as much as I am. Hope we keep it going a little longer.

Re: Bringing home 69 Pete

My 288 didn't have a bumper at all when I got it, only one I could find was the rough looking 359 bumper, think I'll experiment with it and stripe it, never seen one that tall being striped before. Thats as tall a bumper as I want, don't want one that looks like a snow plow.

Re: Bringing home 69 Pete

I notice 18" (or more) bumpers going on about everything. It's sure refreshing to see an "unaccessorized" truck

Re: Bringing home 69 Pete

I was really to young to enjoy the narrow nose pete's when they were in their prime, never saw any single axles around here anyway, all three axles here. My wife and I wish we had been born 10 years sooner, we missed out on the really cool stuff like 55 and 57 Chevys when they were brand new and the really great trucks. Now all we got is 15,000 lb Kia's with fifth wheels on them and they got no class. Keep the pics coming guys, I love it.

Re: Bringing home 69 Pete

When I was in Humboldt County,CA in the mid-late '70s I saw a lot of needle nose log trucks. Between those and traveling cross country seeing the various rigs from different regions planted my (adult) truck love seeds. Tonka Trucks are really to blame (from childhood)

Re: Bringing home 69 Pete

Hey special-K, is that your collection, I like the orange hiway dept drag line, the only hiway dept piece I had was the single axle dump truck. I was out building roads and stuff when I was 6 or 7 years old, never out grew it.
