Very nice and thanks for sharing. The snorkel on the air cleaner looks shorter than my 69 396 C20. I'm no expert by any means though.

And I thought that a distinguishing feature of the CST was the cargo light. Was that not true in '69?

I didn’t want to say because I’m not positive, but don’t believe the chromed caps came with the CST package by default in 69. So I tend to agree this would have had white painted caps unless chromed is listed on the SPID.

Your '69 belongs in our time capsule thread. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...capsule+thread Chevy really didn't standardize on a wheel color for pickups until 1970, there were several rules in place up until 1969. Early '69 wheels were painted argent silver, carryover colors from '68. There was a transition to white painted wheels sometime after the introduction, not sure on the date or when all assembly plants standardized on white wheels. 4WD's wheels were black in early '69, same as in '68, probably went to white about the same time 2WD argent silver wheels went to white. IMO, in '69, either argent silver or white wheel color is acceptable, personal preference on what flows better with exterior body color. Here is an early '69 Custom Camper with argent silver 16.5 rims photo taken when brand new.

I know in 72 on the Cheyenne package which seems to have supersceded the CST, unless you ordered the P03, it came with white painted. I have a 72 Cheyenne which came with white painted caps (only two remained when I purchased the truck). I am putting on the stainless, and adding Super trim, and many other options, just because I like. If you find the truck was optioned with P03 hubcaps, or the owner wishes to go that way, I have and restore the stainless P03s, and could probably help.
going this route on my 72. These are Ford 7x16" wheels, due to the fact the 16 tires are much easier to obtain, these are "P" rated tires I had on hand, which ride MUCH better, and I have no desire to tow or haul heavy loads. |

The PO3 caps in '69 were real chrome, and are extremely hard to find in good condition, they dented and cracked very easily. NOS will cost you a fortune if you can find them, but worth it, if you have a vehicle that's a time capsule. Stainless are easier to find in good condition because they were used up to '75 ('73-'75 center is dished in) not popped out, they are much stronger than original issue chrome over brass, but do not have the shine of chrome. 16x7 Ford wheels ( 2000 ish model Econoline with hubcap bumps) wheels have an uncanny resemblence to the factory 16.5". It would be my wheel of choice if you wanted the original 16.5" look in a 16" wheel. 1980's GM 16"x6 wheels obviously have a more narrower look, but GM never offered a 16X7 stock style 8 lug wheel

Build date is unrelated to hubcaps - i.e. there's no such thing as early or late hubcaps in 69. Hubcap style was the same throughout 69-72 (in white or chrome). factorystock was referring to steel wheel color silver (earlier) vs white (later).

Those are original issue chrome (over brass) in the camper photo. Stainless hubcaps did not exist in '69. There are a couple of hubcap threads that go into more depth. Stainless was the answer for a stronger hubcap, used mainly in the '73-75 era. Some '72's might have came with the stainless caps in the transition period, there has been evidence of stainless caps with the original blue paint in the bowtie, but hard to say if they are original to the truck or later Chevy parts depts replacement hubcaps.

Once I have the VIN number I guess I will know more about what colors the wheels should be. So white painted hubcaps with blue bowtie is a go right?

So on these stainless steel side view mirrors with chrome base. Part of the CST package or a stand alone option? I assume the s/s rain gutters were an add on accessory? Very popular back in the day.

I believe your '69 most likely came originally with chrome caps. Chrome caps were the same '69-'72. Painted caps went thru a color transition just like the wheels. Painted caps were initially silver for '69. Later in the model year the transition to white hubcaps took place. Again, like a stated earlier, '69 was a confusing year. First photo shows a '69 with argent silver wheels and chrome caps. Second photo shows a '69 with argent silver wheels and argent silver caps. I would hold off on white hubcaps till we see your spid ( decal inside glove box door)
