Re: 496 to be DYNO'D!
Sorry for the delay on my end, having some problems with my dyno, I think we have figured it out and will have some numbers soon, the cam is 570 608 238/248, BTW my guess is 700, any way you want to look at it, your truck could run 10s with this very streetable engine.

Re: 496 to be DYNO'D!
I am always interested in modeling motors in performance trends. Mind sharing actual head flow data at. 300 .500 .600? Also. Is the motor set up with factory tolerances or a little looser? Factory widange or does it have a tray and good pan?

Re: 496 to be DYNO'D!
Hmm, with flow numbers I change to 713 hp @ 6400.
All these 500hp guess wont get the virtual high five. It WILL be 665+ I guarantee that

Re: 496 to be DYNO'D!
If Mark says 700 @ 6300, that is with in a few numbers. He has built more then enough and flowed way too many heads to know what itll make.
I want him to do my next build.

Re: 496 to be DYNO'D!
Numbers PT gave are below running 91 octane and 165* coolant temps.
Adjusting windage and setting the bottom end to a lower drag set up netted a pinch over 30ftlbs and 30hp through out the full curve bringing 641ftlbs @ 4,600 and 629hp @ 5,600. Adjusting headflow after adjusting the windage/friction netted 642ftlbs @ 4,500 and 630hp at 5,700. Keep in mind, I don't have updated flow numbers for the exhaust which could move things higher if I had them. Also, wish I had .600 numbers to use over .550. I have found the program to be most accurate using .300 .500 and .600. I know the intake side of the cam never sees that lift, but it just works better. Could be showing less power with that as well. Also, Mark did not provide all the details on the cam. IE intake centerline and LSA. I am going off previously posted LSA and a 112 ICL. Unfortunately the program is only as good as the info provided. It has proven itself time and time again when ALL the accurate data is given. But there is a lot of guess work here. I hope it is conservative and you get to that 640+ftlbs @ 4,900 and 700hp @ 6,300 Mark is mentioning. I know this isnt the first motor Mark has built.

Re: 496 to be DYNO'D!
One additional comment, If you take the power curve PT gave, move it up 300rpm which is closer to where Mark says it will make peak TQ
642ftlbs@4,900=599hp 580ftlbs@6,000=662hp 536ftlbs@6,400=653hp

Not going there at all.

Re: 496 to be DYNO'D!
sign me up for a steel headed 9-1 comp, small cam, 496 that makes 700 H.P.
Sounds like I wasted a ton of money bulding my 496 !! 13.5 to 1 comp, brodix cnc'd bb2 extras, big solid roller, super victor,1150 dominator that made a little over 800 h.p.

Again, I don't have the full scoop on the motor. Garbage in = Garbage out. The program has proven itself with in 2% on quite a few wild motors. Not saying this build won't make what you are saying, just using the info that I have.

What did you have this engine in ? What were the specs on the car/truck , weight, gear ratio, and what are the numbers at the track ? Dyno sheets don't mean much to me, it's real easy to inflate the numbers. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 496 to be DYNO'D!
Generally this is where I would go into defensive mode, BUT, I did see the picture of your beautiful L78 camaro and I do believe you do deserve some respect. The 800 HP oval port 11.5 compression engine has not been down the track yet, my customer will have runs on it coming up this spring. To me, I like to know the (racing background) of the people questioning my dyno numbers. So I think its only fair I state my background. I machine and build and test my own engines, everything is machined in house with the crankshaft as an exception. 1. Two strait hot street championships (550 inch NA 10 inch tire 3350 pounds) both ends of the records, won every race except for 1 over a two season span, as an engine builder. 2. The fastest full weight, small tire, oval port (GM) production blocked chevelles in country come out of my shop. 3. Just for you I have an example of a Vortecpro powered 468 NA camaro, I think you just might be able to identify with. NA 468 9.40 @ 142.40 1.28 60 on the foot brake @ 1670 feet DA @ KCIR. BTW on that dyno you questioned the HP of, it made (the 468) 45 less hp than yours, 795 HP. Happy reading
