Re: Went to a Bigger Blazer
Wow, I'd forgotten about this thread.
Let me say that the blazer has CHANGED ALOT since then. Some of the changes were just detail/personnel choice while others were mandatory to get it to the next step of drive-ability/function and performance. * Removed the hard top for a softie *Changed to 39.5 TSL's w/Staun bead-locks *Tires mandated a fair amount of fender trimming *Installed a set of inner fenders *Relocated front shocks to take advantage of the available travel *Installed a K series th400 case and had it totally rebuilt *Installed new shift rails in the doubler set up *Fabbed up a rear mount for the 205 *Installed a Warn 9K winch *High steer kit from ORD *Hydro/ram assist steering from PCS *Spooled the front Dana 60 and added a 4340 alloy axle set *New front drive shaft from High Angle w/12" slip joint *On board CO/2 air from Power Tank *Replaced all bearings/seals on both axles *Detroit locker in the rear *Electric two speed fan *Pinion protection added Still need/want to do: ![]() Gas tank skid plate Get the TPI installed Re-skin the rear quarter and fab up a slider that will tie into a small exo cage to protect the rear quarter panels/lights Repaint It's been an interesting road to get to this point, I've learned alot about alot. Couple morphing pics |

![]() Worst part was the sound that the spring clip made as it broke and flew away bouncing against the rocks, made it sound WAY serious at first. ![]() Fixed it right there on the trail but it was a real biatch getting the slip joint back together cause the last 1/4" of spline was twisted pretty bad. Took it over tp NY last weekend, should have more vid from that later. |

Re: Went to a Bigger Blazer
How it happened or why it happened?
The 'how' was descending a fire-road and dropping into a small washout at the bottom. The 'why' is a four part puzzle. #1 - the front drive shaft was too long. #2 - there was only one mount on the rear of the 203 and nothing on the 205 #3 - the shift rails in the 205 had been ground incorrectly which was allowing for cross ratio shifting between the front and rear axles. #4 - the th-400 wasn't a 'K' series case, just a stock tranny from a 2wd. Repairs made: 1) shortened the front shaft 2) fabbed up another mount to support the rear of the 205 3) already having the doubler out was a good thing, pulled it apart and sent the rails back to ORD for another set. (couldn't save the original ones) 4) a local th-400 guru built me a stout new tranny armed with the full knowledge of what the truck was going to be used for. All tricked out for hard wheeling, including compression braking that would rival any standard tranny out there. ![]() So the story is, take your pick... Could of been any one issue by itself or all working together. ![]() Last edited by vtblazer; 01-31-2007 at 06:21 PM. |

Re: Went to a Bigger Blazer
Great to see you get it installed. I'm just waiting for some warmer weather around here so I can stab my 400 sbc in my K5. Good luck getting the tank installed today.

Re: Went to a Bigger Blazer
I used a oem plastic tank and cut a hole in the top, made a bracket to hold the in tank pump. Works great. I'll see if I can find some pics.

What's in the way of the tank? I've got a '90 Blazer tank in my '72.
