Re: 66 c10 first timer build

The 700R4 is a fairly popular overdrive auto trans. So parts are reasonable, and most tranny guys know what needs to be done to upgrade them. The only other non-electronic OD auto trans is the 200-4R.

Re: 66 c10 first timer build

Im i right? i need another trans mount beside the stock to go towards the end of the trans? If so what years will fit if i go get one from a salvage.

If any one has done this does it take up all 4 holes on the frame or is it just take up 2 and the 4 holes are just for adjusting? I want to go ahead and put it on and paint it if i need it.

does anybody know which holes i will need to put it in for my setup? 327/700r4

You need to lose the x-member in the frame right in front of the front cab mount and add one down the frame, roughly centered under the cab. Not sure exactly what works, but I think one from the squares will fit with just drilling the right holes. There are always aftermarket pieces, too.

Re: 66 c10 first timer build

You can use an auto trans crossmember from a '63-'87 truck. You will just need to locate it in the frame once you get the engine and trans in place. Then you can drill the mounting holes. I always have used the factory trans crossmembers. And I agree on removing the bellhousing crossmember.

Re: 66 c10 first timer build

The most common gear seems to be 3.73's which will be just about right with a OD trans. You don't want the rpm's too low, The engine needs to be operating in it's power band for best efficiency. Of course this depends on what size (OD) tires you will be running.

Re: 66 c10 first timer build

did you spray it on? or brush it on? i brushed mine on under the bed and you can see the hammered look more and you can add more texture! but ready theres no way to keep it uniform brushing it on, it takes practice! i did my inner fenders and firewall the same way too, the stuff in the can is darker then the quart size can stuff!

What I meant was that is probably the most common gear from the factory in a C10

Just so I can check the box, and while I have it all apart anyways, I am changing the oil, gasket, and ordering the breather to replace the vent hose.

I mean, might as well since you are there, and it is easy to get to at this time....

I saw someone else do this recently and it looked like a cooler idea than stock.
