Not too sure about the years, though.

Your array of music is impressive Tim. And wow, you know See Emily Play. I only know the song because of my uncle. He's two years older is all. Interesting guy, and loved drugs.

By some measure Pink Floyd sucked badly in their old days. Personally I think they're on Zepplin's level, though stuck on a desert Island I'm with PF. Difference was LZ was great right out of the gate. Floyd didn't come into their own until Meddles, each album progressively better until they peaked with Darkside & Wall. IMO, 2-3 albums are master pieces.

Thanks. I had a lot of influences. And this is with only staying within the era of our 67-72 trucks... give or take a year at either end. Just to note, I bought my newest used vehicle in '73. I spotted and had to have the shiney trade-in on a "new look" '73 some fool let go of... '72 Custom Deluxe Highlander SWB BBC in solid Ochre. I've always tried to keep my ears on and my mind open. I'm a student of the world. College would have limited my education process . I drove that C/10, with under dash Ampex cassette deck and Altec speakers under the seat, all over. If the motor was running the music was playing. I played the heck out of John Mayall's "Back To The Roots" dbl album. I'd get the newspaper to find the best movie playing, grab a gal, and off we'd go! If it was in the paper it was close enough to drive. Sometimes that meant 1 1/2 hours away. Never gave it a thought. Life was too good to set barriers. Just GO!

Re: Nudder Music Thread: 67-72 Music

Only when I was holding drumsticks

I agree they brought it all together with Meddle. They were a bit hard to follow with your mind in this universe on most of their earlier stuff. See Emily Play was about as normal as they got. Ummagumma? Uh... the name says it all. Rather dated and somewhat out of fashion (in short order). I put that with King Crimson and Capt. Beefheart . Only Frank Zappa pulled it off over time. I guess King Crimson wasn't too bad

WARNING!!! Prepare yourselves for a journey into another realm!

Re: Nudder Music Thread: 67-72 Music

Added that Crimson tune to my must add list. Nice.

My kids treated me to the PF tribute band recently, Brit Floyd. Well too much post Wall album played, but pretty great musicians and show over-all. Except the audience, mostly made up of old stoners and geeez, they sat there like zombies too. One of These Days is played and they ROCKED the place. But still no movement from the audience, I couldn't believe it. If that were a younger crowd they'd been dancing.

IMO, though their last album was poor, either Gilmore and Waters pair up or their productions are unremarkable. Waters has some "interesting" solo tracks, post Waters Pink-Floyd less than that................But somehow Gilmore cam up with this one, it's easy to get lost in it. For what it's worth, I'm generally pretty weak on lyrics over-all, I pretty well just hear the music.

Re: Nudder Music Thread: 67-72 Music

I used my magic powers to edit your link. Simply remove the "s" from "https" and you get the whole thing in your post. Why that is I could not tell you, but that's how it works.

That one sounds totally classic Pink Floyd. The lyric thing must be a drummer thing. I am attracted to the music, then the words may or may not sink in later. I have had the lyrics sink in on songs decades later. Often that's pretty neat, like hearing a new song with double the pleasure... if I like the subject matter and composure.

Old stoners just sitting there placid... huh, imagine that. Some things never change.

Deep Purple had Smoke On The Water, as we know. I think most kids who got a new electric guitar back then got that rhythm riff down first.
Da Da Da...Dada Dada...Da Da Da..Dada... Repeat

I was more impressed with the energy in this one

That's some cool magic Tim. Wow, Ten Years After is pretty good. Added another to my must add list. I'll research them for more, nice sound.

I think my ignorance of lyrics began because of my initial musical environment, drums too. My parents generally played classical, jazz and melodies. I was rock ignorant until my late teens.

My friend swears Deep Purple > Led Zepplin. He's not alone. For my "second" no "S" video.

Re: Nudder Music Thread: 67-72 Music

C-10 solid Ochre is awesome. Can use lower belts IMO, upper looks nice too. That with a BB makes for a bad@$$ truck.

My project C-10 had a cassette as well. Glad I kept the AM, looks like new. Speakers were on the floor in front of the bench seat. Thought it was cool for a while, sounded like crap. There’s been one cassette in the deck over the last 15 years or so, Pink Floyd Animals. Haven’t driven it much, and the last long distance was a camping trip pulling a tent trailer, very early 2000s. Window down Animals playing, I remember like yesterday.

Never heard of John Mayell, makes me want to party. Great sax in Groupie Girl, I see they produced some nice stuff, so you gave me some homework.

Re: Nudder Music Thread: 67-72 Music

To find original music you need to go back thousands of years. Most American music we listen to today, such as rock and country, find their roots in blues music. People find it hard to believe that their country music they love comes out of blues music they don't like. The only stealing going on with music is done by record companies who made a business of making money off of the creative artists. John Fogerty can't even play his own music he created with his band Creedence Clearwater Revival. The record company "owns" it through underhanded contract practices. In fact, I believe he couldn't even make new recordings for X amount of years under any other label.

I was listening to J.J. Cale back in this era. He was about as original as it gets in the modern world. He wrote music the ever so popular Eric Clapton is famous for. And it wasn't stealing. They were friends til the day JJ passed away

And another well known group did this one of his

Here's another example from this time period. Captain & Tennille got famous off this song...

... by Willis Allen Ramsey

And he didn't need to wear a goofy captain's cap

Haw! I saw Captain & Tennille in a little bar once upon a time. Not really by choice-I was working there and the outdoor show got moved inside. '73, I think. I musta been about 15. Darrell "The Captain" Dragoon (sp?) just passed a couple months back.

I've tried to post them links like you told other Larry to, but it don't seem to work for me.

At any rate, as for evolution, consider Crossroad Blues

Robert Johnson:

Cream:

Skynyrd:

Adam Gussow (with a fine truck. IDK if it's his, but it's a nice one)

Re: Nudder Music Thread: 67-72 Music

I thought of Crossroads as a great example as well. But some of the examples get outside of the 67-72 theme this thread is dedicated to.

I was on one of your links, just typed the same title in the YouTube search box, click, same video comes up (along with a column of others), right click that title (I think you can click on picture for same result), box with option to "copy link location" comes up, tap that, right click in the thread, box with option to "paste" comes up, tap that, wipe out that "s" in https and you have it. I had it explained to me a few times, tried and sometimes worked/sometimes not. I wasn't always doing the same thing I guess. Didn't really "get it" until I ended up figuring out what it was I was doing as I did it long enough. I know that's how I am. You can explain and explain, but nothing works for me better than figuring out on my own. I am absolutely terrible at reading and following directions. You'd think I was an idiot. But I can figure things out on my own that other people don't seem to be able to. I think I'm everything from dyslexic to ADD and everything in between. But when it comes to natch'l born aptitude, I got this!

Here is a less mainstream double album that very much represents this time period to me.

Yeah, I get carried away sometimes

Let's see if this works:

OK, that's a little more like it. I was right clicking on the vid while it was playing instead of from the list.

There ya go! I keep thinking of music a tad later myself. There's the other thread not too far back. I just haven't gotten around to posting on there. Also the conversation went to stealing/covering/shadowing... kinda side tracked things. No biggie, it's all good, whatever turns you on, it's your thing do what chu wanna do. I can't tell you, who to sock it to

This 67-72 theme needs respect

Can't let it drift off to cloud 9

Take it right back to the main drag...Broadway
^ Might be a tad early. But we were listening to it!

I wouldn't exactly call it stealing. Maybe more like paying respect or paying tribute

Re: Nudder Music Thread: 67-72 Music

Enjoy!
