i would steer you away from a jetta or any newer vw or audi for that matter (been there done that with a 01 audi 1.8t). go to edmunds.com and look at some of the reviews owners have for their cars. Newer vw’s are prone to wiring and electrical problems. if youre looking for a 4 banger tuner car, look into 99+ two door 5 speed saab 93. they are 2 liter turbo's making more power than the jetta while being wayyy more original and classy. get a chip and MBC and be on your way to 18 PSI of boost. just my .02 cents

after having a nice car that had more problems than i cound affort while away at college, i just sold it and got a POS 2000 cavalier. college towns SUCK when it comes to break-in's and stolen cars. just buy yourself a beater that has REASONABLE power and be happy with it. if it gets stolen... so what?? you still have 5 grand of money invested in a money market or CD that you had after buying a nice beater.

I have to call bullsh*t on this one. My best friend loved (past tense) Volkswagens. I push started all 7 of them. Garbage! Plus the first one was thought up by Hitler so I don't want it.

1. Keep the truck.

2. I'd take a rear wheel drive Ford over a front drive GTP anyday.

3. If you have to get an import, get an AWD turbo Subaru...mid 13's from the factory and you can get on them in the snow and pouring rain. I love beating GT's and TA's, whether the roads are dry or not.

Well, your car, your decision. I personally say go for it or congrats on the buy, whichever applies at this point. I got a 2001 Jetta GLX w/ the VR6 and 5 speed. Man, I loved that car. All in all I am a truck person and now have a 2003 Silverado, but if I could have afforded it, I would have kept it too.

so just the fact that the original model for that make was "though up" by a man who was a genius makes the whole brand bad? yes, his views were a little off , however anyone who can take an entire country and convince them to his way of thinking has to be doing something right somewhere. he actually originated the basic idea for the Volkswagen as a cheap reliable car that every German could afford. he was successful at that.

as for the rear drive Ford vs. the front drive GM (with a factory supercharger no less), i would still rather push a GM than drive a Ford.

If you want the Subie, but cooler looking and cheaper, get the Saab 9-2X Aero. Same car, same power, better looks, and you can get the GM Employee discount, at least for a little while. Can you say $19k and change? You'll pay at least 4-5k more than that for the Subaru.

Lord, I hope you are being sarcastic calling Hitler a "genius" and saying his views were a "little off." The man was pure evil.

Anyway, I'd take a 32 Ford with a flathead over any GM front-driver anyday. Have you seen the new 06 Impala? Unfortunately GM is tanking and it is only getting worse. I've been a diehard GM guy forever, but when Ford and Chrysler are making rear-drive V8 cars while GM cancels theirs (the new Camaro has been nixed), I say it is time to rethink things.

Get whatever you want. You're the one who has to drive it and pay for it. I don't see anyone lining up to make your payments for you. Sure it's sad to see someone with whom you may have had something in common chnage but that's life.

Good luck. I hope you enjoy it. You'll be back.

part of it was sarcasm, the "little off" part. he was obviously a nutcase. however, the man was a genius. you have to give him credit for gettin so many people to follow his sick and twisted ways. to this day, there are still groups that follow him, and he's been dead for 60 years or better.

you're not comparing apples to apples there, with the '32. we're talking about something that is going to be relatively cheap, is going to be fuel efficient, and have several options. put all of that into a '32 and suddenly, you dont have a '32 anymore. you have a car that has been hacked to bits and built into a street rod. and we all now street rods arent cheap.

I agree...I just wish GM was building some affordable rear wheel drive V8 coupes and sedans, similar in structure to the Mustang and the 300C/Charger.

They are making it hard for me to be a "GM Guy!"

that's like giving GE credit for inventing the lightbulb. sure, they make it a reality, but Thomas Edison came up with the original idea. BTW, that's exactly what Porsche does, they're a design company primarily. they take ideas of others and make them a reality. building top notch cars is sort of a hobby for them.
