Re: 54 C4 Build

Deabt54, If you have any questions feel free to ask. It is great working in a machine shop because my shop lets us use the machines if we need off hours. Our parts are mosty one offs too. We do most of our work on CNC but some on manuals. Welding is no problem after you do it for a while. I have a Mig and a AC/DC Tig. I prefer the Mig, the Tig is nice but too slow. Keep up the good work.

Re: 54 C4 Build

Question about your frame height.

What are the measurements of

1: top of frame height to the floor
2: bottom of C-notch to the floor
3: top of C-notch to the floor
4: mounting bolt hole for the rear end "wing" to the floor

I've taken 1,000 measurements (yes, I counted every one!) and cant seem to make things work. Ill post a pic in a sec.

Re: 54 C4 Build

This is what I'm working with.

I WAS shooting to get 19" under the C notch, however, the only way I can get the rear to mount up, will put me higher.

I have a few options to keep me at 19", but after reading your updates, I think I may want to rethink my options and try and get this thing lower.

Please help!

Hi Jay, here's the numbers you ask for.
1. 15 3/4
2sk for.. 19 5/8
3. 23 1/2
4. 16 1/4 at about center
Hope that helps, if you need anymore numbers let me know. More than happy to help out. Oh and you might want to take off that alum. bump stop thing, that might get you where you want to be. Keep in touch.
Fun stuff isn't it.

Re: 54 C4 Build

Ok, I need a few more....

1: top of C notch
2: bottom of C notch
3: distance between front of c notch
4: distance between rear of c notch

My dimensions are almost identical to yours, yet things dont fit. The wing isnt fitting inbetween the rails, and the tie rods are hitting back of c notch. Im ready to start over with something different!

Ok Jay here ya go.
1. 17 1/4"
2. 13"
3. 38 3/4"
4. 40 3/4"
Here's a few more that might help.
Angle of front and rear c notch uprights. ( from the ouyside) 53 degrees.
Distance from rear of frame to where the c notch meets the frame. 21"
Distance from the tip of the frame (front) to the face of the rear mount is 140".
I'm thinking your notch might be short in the rear. And as far as the mounts sitting betweem the frame, you'll want to take off those aluminum blocks that are on top of the mounts. You don't need them, I took mine off and i have plenty of room. Wish I could come over to help. A little too far
Real happy to help.

Re: 54 C4 Build

Wow. Thanks for that. Seems like im off by either half inch, one degree in every place. Knowing this, im not sure if i should start over w/ a c notch, make a different style, or just force fit it.

Thanks for those measurements. This has helped tremendously, and i hope it helps some1 else. Maybe after the bugs are worked out we cld upload a blueprint for folks to use!

Ok time ti start my day.

Re: 54 C4 Build

Here's an update folks, its been awhile sence I've posted. I've been doing little bits at atime and i thought I'd wait till I got a lot done.
I boxed the frame with some 1/8 inch plate I had laying around, didn't bother filling all the hole on the frame, didn't see any point in it, got a Progressive K-member and booster , brake pedal setup plus the trans mount. Finished getting the trans mount tacked in and the engine set up for its mounts. Notice the engine mount on the front is just there for set up. Now I have to figure out a mount on the drivers side to miss the steering rack. Next week. Well there you have it folks one bite at a time.

Everything looks great, front end really nice. One question I have is with the master cylinder mounted so far back, where will you fill the unit, looks like it would be under the seat?.....Jim

Re: 54 C4 Build

Is that a flat plate holding your transmission up? Is there more that we can't see from that picture?

Re: 54 C4 Build

Super good looking work! Do you know what your final front bumper height will be? Getting ready to do the same front if I can get it low enough. Thanks

Re: 54 C4 Build

Thanks for the interest Josh, it's funny I just started logging back on here after two years. Thing went sort of sore for me in April of 2012, company I worked 17 years for shut down at the end of 2012. But I sprung back on my feet and I'm starting to get back to this beast. I panted the frame with Por 15 about a year ago and got brand new calipers and rotors and now I need to plumb the brakes. Ha I'm not giving up on this dream.
