It was a hot and windy day and the closer we got to eliminations the temps dropped and wind stopped, left everyone breaking out, he was was the chaser in that race and had a lead on the ranger by half track he hit the brakes to tighten up the finish as not to break out, All in all it was a good night, it's always a good night when you can drive it home.

Re: "valdez"

got the cab mount bushings replaced. highschool races were last friday, got out to the track and put the slicks on and was about to go to tech inspection, when i turned the key i heard the motor turn over once and then nothing. i didnt have my test meter with me so i couldnt test the battery but all my lights "looked" bright so i figured it was good. a buddy of mine had a starter out of a 70 so i went to put that in and it was the aluminum one so my bolts were to short so i went down to ask a friend if he had longer starter bolts, he did not but he let me borrow a mini starter wich as soon as i was about to bolt it to yhe block my mom showed up with starter she picked up for me at napa. and turns out i told her to get the wrong ones and my starter bolts were to short so i called my dad when he got off of work and had him pick up longer starter bolts. when he showed up we got the starter in then i turned the key and... still nothing so we grabbed his test meter and checked the battery, 9 volts with everything off and like 6.7 volts when trying to start it. so we took the battery out of my dads car and off i went. got on to the track just before they closed the lanes to get ready for eliminations and i hit the 60 foot mark and the truck shorted out, i got in to much of a hurry and the positive cable going down to the starter i ended up wedging against the exhaust and shorted it all out. got it all fixed right before eliminations and redlit first round by -0.071. its just amazing how fast a battery can loose its cold cranking amps!

I saw a link someone on the board had to a company that made contoured filler neck cover plates that fit really well. I will see if I can dig up the link and info. They were pretty inexpensive.

Re: "valdez"

the buzzing half dozen!!!
That is why I left the inline 6 in the 64 truck that daughter is driving!!
But for the best mileage you have to keep your foot off the floorboard!!!
As per the blue oval...... I forgive you .. it is still classic iron and I am proud of you for not just getting a rice burner!!!!!
BUT we need pictures!!!!!

Re: "valdez"

Well Kyle,
You must not be paying enough attention in school these days.... It is just a matter of applying simple physics..

While doing a burnout, you have NO forward motion while using a large amount of fuel in the process,
So to increase the Miles Per Gallon ratio, try for more forward motion and less fuel consumption.
This may be the same problem that is causing causing the poor fuel economy in the truck!!!

Re: "valdez"

ok now you got me confused they call it mpg ( miles per gallon) so if im not moving how can that affect my miles per gallon?

Re: "valdez"

Okay Kyle We will try this again-pay attention this time!
There must be too many girls in your classes as you seem distracted.
Just physics and math

First - the burnouts are measured in SMILES per gallon,so the mileage factor does not apply in the equation .

Second -You are having fun ....doing burnouts are fun and the resulting bad MPG spoils the fun... so ignore the constant drop of the fuel gauge at this time.

Third -The BEST mileage comes with a really sharp truck just sitting still collecting dust and no bugs , but we call that a Trailer Queen!!
So Trailer Queen without Forward Motion equals LAME and the result is a negative.
Maybe we need to introduce a additional factor in the equation to dilute the fuel and increase the capacity to the carburetor
I would consider the bottled fun juice to be a positive

So remember, the Fun to mileage ratio always improves with Dads credit card as the exponent.

Good luck with that
Bubba

Re: "valdez"

there are two problems with the previous statement, N2O is always a negative to your pocket i am assuming this is where my dads credit card comes in, but you have forgotten there is a bonding agent between my carb and his credit card, this is called love. something of which my father seems lack for my projects and me when i bring another project home.

Bubba, I can't take it anymore.... No more projects! Why does his projects have to be mine? Looks like the only solution is to send him your way, you have lots of experience with the old six I have none....problem solved.

thanks for the help,
