Thanks bullet. I got pine, which is the cheapest and is apparently what was used from the factory from what I have read. I plan on using it so I don't want it to be too pretty.

I'm really liking the shackles.
Thanks Big Tex. The letters are a sticker kit I got off EBay. I think I'd like to use paint once the stickers get messed up.

I like the exhaust. Not too loud until you stomp on it! Did you tackle those door pins yet?

I wish I knew how to put arrows on the picture. It's the horizontal rod going straight through each hinge. There are some pretty good how to threads on this board that I used when I replaced mine.

Re: 87' 4x4

I haven't got much work done lately, but I did buy a set of cheap all-terrains for it. They are 31x10.50x15's. The project is a lot more fun now that I can drive it around a little.

Re: 87' 4x4

Ahh makes sense. The life of being a garaged truck or car must be nice haha but they require it.

I hope to be able to see her soon, truck is beautiful!! Where did you have the truck get painted at? I'm trying to find a shop to do mine here in the near future.

His name is Gary Wick. He works out of his house in the Santa Fe / Alvin area, but he has an unbelievable shop. He does nice work.

He might be a little on the high side judging from some of the custom cars that were in his shop. My deal with him was kind of unique because I also bought the truck from him. I had started a project converting a 2WD long bed to 4x4 and was searching for a 4WD 700r4 on Craigslist. My search pulled up this truck. It had been listed for months and apparently he couldn't sell it. He had started rebuilding the truck for a neighbor in 2005, but the neighbor lost his motivation to finish it. When I looked at the truck it was in pieces, but it included a new crate motor and freshly rebuilt 700r4. It had been sitting untouched for years. He didn't want to sell just the transmission or motor. To make a long story short, I ended up buying the whole truck and having him finish painting it.

I have been working on it for a couple of years now trying to get it back together. I under estimated how long it would take someone with my skills to put it together! Also, it was fortunate that I had the previous project because this think was missing all kinds of little b.s. parts that I robbed from my previous project.

I was happy with his paint work and would use him again.

Re: 87' 4x4

Dang that is pretty crazy!!

Yeah I'm trying to find someone that does good work and has had plenty of experience as well, price I mean that's no real big issue I'm getting a custom paint job so I'm already ready to spend at least 8k just on the paint job honestly.

Yeah man it always helps when you have some experience like me I'm doing it cold turkey never restored a vehicle so it's a big learning curve for me thankfully it's semi easy to work on and I have a friend and cousin that's worked on cars so I have help too but it's been fun yeah I get pissed but it's part of the game so I'm not worried pushing through is the key for me. And I wouldn't be able to be so far if it wasn't for you, and everything that's helped me out on my build

Re: 87' 4x4

Thanks guys. I replaced my serpentine belt today. I had been having hell with it squeaking. I think I had the wrong belt. The new one is an inch or so shorter and doesn't squeak at all.

I started laying out the wood for the bed and drilling the mounting holes etc. At first I thought Classic Parts shorted me on the metal strips because I'm missing one. It turns out they sent me a kit for the wrong year. The 73-87's have 7 boards and the earlier models had 8 boards. It fits but all the mounting holes are off and I'm short a bed strip. They emailed me to return some of the boards and they would send replacements. I think I'd rather them just send the extra strip.

Took it for a drive this morning and took a couple more poser shots.

If you are talking about the front, I just haven't got around to it yet. I have been slowly putting the truck back together. It's kind of nice not having them in there when you are working in the engine compartment because there is a lot more room.
