Mike,
Ebay is a good source, need to be sure it is the correct one, lots of people do not know what a correct one is. They are not cheap. Good luck. Les |

Re: 1965, L6 292 Engine Power Steering Pump Set-Up
Many years ago I had put PS on a 68 with a 250. Got the pump and bracket off one vehicle and box from another. No issues that I can remember.
Now the brackets are getting as rare as hens teeth. This time on the 66 I had a double pulley on the crank. Put a double pulley on the water pump. Rear belt stayed unchanged from crank to water pump to alternator. Front belt from crank to water pump to steering pump. Had to cut down and modify an elaborate bracket from an 85 Buick IIRC which had the adjustment slot. |

Re: 1965, L6 292 Engine Power Steering Pump Set-Up
Planning the power steering conversion for my 1963 C20, with a cross member from a 1974 C20.
Should I order a pump/pulley from a 63 C20 or from a 74 C20 (inline six 292). Not sure if the 292 in my truck is the original motor. And, is it better to have the pump without the reservoir? Any advantages here?

Re: 1965, L6 292 Engine Power Steering Pump Set-Up
I just picked up a PS bracket from Davis Speed Equipment. It’s not OEM, but is high quality, 1/4 steel and includes hardware and clear instructions. He’s got variants for different positioning of the pump and alternator and low profile and a few others. For me it was well worth the $143 for model 10003. There are also new brackets for A/C units. Great service and excellent phone help. 608-469-4927. Good luck.

Question on the pump - does your pump have the stud at the 5 o’clock position? I have been trying to find the correct pump, and I am just not sure which one I should purchase. Some of the pumps on Rock Auto do not have that stud, or it’s at the top of the pump. Did you buy your PS pump recently, or did it come with your truck? Any chance you have a part number? I wonder if the PS pumps from other cars would work, like from a Nova or Camaro.

Re: 1965, L6 292 Engine Power Steering Pump Set-Up
Is there a hydro boost setup that connects the power steering to the brake vacuum booster? A parts guy mentioned that to me on the phone.
Is that a required setup for these trucks? Don’t you need an extra connection on the PS pump for this?

Re: 1965, L6 292 Engine Power Steering Pump Set-Up
hydroboost doesnt connect to a vacuum booster...it is the booster..no vacuum needed
ive seen people run the bypass line from the booster to a T in the steering box return line line...but ive heard some complaints about cavitation issues , and some have no isuues... a true hydroboost pump has 2 return line fittings..one for the booster and one for the steering

Re: 1965, L6 292 Engine Power Steering Pump Set-Up
this is a hydroboost...it replaces the vacuum booster
the pressure line from the pump goes to the hydroboost...and then to the steering box...from the steering box back to the reservoir...there is also a return line from the booster itself that goes back to the reservoir,,, most use a inline cooler on them as well in the return line between the steering box and the reservoir

So, I take it, if I buy this PS pump, I will not need to worry about this so-called ‘hydro-boost’. https://www.rockauto.com/en/cart/

Re: 1965, L6 292 Engine Power Steering Pump Set-Up
Can anyone confirm - can I remove this stud and use a bolt in its place?
I cannot get the bracket on there. That stud bolts into the pump; I’m just worried about getting it to seal and not leak.
