Last week's progress. I replaced the ignition switch and have been driving it some close to home. I also have the parts painted since these pics and took it to a car show in Bastrop (NE of Austin) yesterday. They had a "Survivor" class, but I did not place. There were only three or four 67-72 trucks there. Too bad dad didn't want to drive up from their place on the coast. he would have placed with his truck, IMO. Maybe next year. Will post latest pics otf the car, and maybe some 72 truck pics from the show soon.

Here are a few pics of the Comet as it is today. In addition to the fender and gravel pan, the passenger side door edge and rocker panel were scraped down to bare metal. I cleaned this up and shot all this with the stock ocean turquoise metallic. It doesn't look too good due to the fact that the rest of the car is faded so badly, but it beats primer. The rest of the car needs a paint job anyway...One pic is of the B&B we stayed at. My wife is happy with my car habit as long as she gets to stay in a nice place occasionally.

I found a grille at Memory Lane in California. They had it on EBAY. I got it for $40, +$40 shipping (!) It only has one small scrape. the rest of the parts came from my new friend Mike at Kattner Auto in Thrall, TX. (You can see more pics of Mike's "collection" under a post called "Everbody loves a trip to the salvage yard story." Anyone in the market for a 62 Comet S-22? It is for sale for $4,500. Runs, drives, street legal, new tires, registration good til 2013!

The B&B is on Church St. in Bastrop. It is run by the same people who run the Pecan St. Inn in Bastrop.

I've been to Bastrop! I was there for 3 weeks once in 1997 or 98 (getting old, can't remember!) when I was a firefighter. We were part of a strike team from Colorado during a time when there were a lot of really bad fires in that area. One ripped through Bastrop State Park and nuked that place!

Update on the Comet: Shortly after the last post, I traded it straight across to a fellow for a 1967 Massey Ferguson 2200 Industrial tractor with a Perkins diesel and a front end loader. THe "MF" can be seen in some of my other threads pulling and loading cabs and other items. Nice back saver when I have laready had back surgery for a herniated disc before I have even turne 40!

Unfortunately that was not the worst fire to hit that area. Due to all the pine trees, limbs, needles, etc , there was just too much tinder on the ground. There was a bad drought as well. The two were a bad combo. In 2011 Texas was hit by the worst wildfires in known history. Two people died in the fires, which is fortunate, but one of those was my friend Troy Farr, a fellow electrician that I worked with at Austin Begstrom Intl Airport. My wife had looked at moving to the area in 2010. Two of the house we considered buying were later burned to the ground. I think God was looking out for us by keeping us where we were.
