Re: Used Parts Build
Yeah its a bit of work done so far....been working too much and working on other peoples cars. Going to bodywork class once a week though. Pretty cool set up. Even have a frame straightener
One of the students has a pretty nice truck I have been a bit sick of modifying ever part to fit my 75 and don't want to even deal with running air lines or buy valves etc. I also am limited with the 8 lug set up so I went online and found a set of control arms and a 12 bolt for really cheap. I'm going to toss a set of springs in there so I can work on getting the engine and trans mocked up. I just really want to drive the thing. Once its running I'll start bagging it.

Re: Used Parts Build
Sold the sectioned crossmember I did awhile back:
Worked on a patch panel in class. Everyone had to weld a side (mine is the one without all the burn through lol) One of the guys from class was working on his project. Working on shrinking metal. Prius fenders as super thin! Really need to buy a blaster....Cleaning rust and paint is such a pain: Lot more cleaning ahead. Then going to do some painting.

Re: Used Parts Build
I was planning on just tossing the front suspension back together but couldnt leave well enough alone. I stole the idea from Rob at No Limit.
Ordered ball joint cups from Speedway Motors. I moved the ball joints forward 5/8'' of an inch and about 1/16'' inch in. My hole saw was getting dull. This sped everything up faster than I thought it would. I'll weld the new cups in tomorrow.

Re: Used Parts Build
Didnt want to rattle can my suspension parts and wanted to try something other than the por15 I am using on my frame.
Didnt come out too bad. Got a few runs and bit of a dry spot. I should have waited a bit longer between coats. The amount you spray at one time is semi limited because the can starts to get cold. We'll see how well it holds up.

Cool build. I dig it. Where did you get the little aerosol sprayer? Some really nice work.

Re: Used Parts Build
Thanks man. You can get them at most hardware stores. Its 9 bucks for the set up but then you can reuse the bottom and buy the tops for around 4 bucks.

Re: Used Parts Build
What engine are you putting in it?
Why did a C10 start out 8 lug, or did someone convert it? Depending on what's in the rear end I might be interested in some parts.

Thanks. I almost got a G35 but the seller backed out and I got the 350Z instead. Still need to tint the windows and tail lights.

Ever feel like all you do is clean and paint...?
Got the frame rails under the cab in POR15. More suspension parts and brackets in epoxy.

Re: Used Parts Build
Here the final result of my autobody class. Ignore the whole at the top because we cut it out to patch another part of the fender and time have the time to patch that one. It is in primer and has been wet sanded. I was pretty happy how it turned out. Now I don't know what class to take next. There are two options: Paint/Refinishing: The second half of this class. The two problems are that the instructor isn't the greatest teacher and I don't think I will be doing any real paint on my projects in the next year. He shows you how to do stuff but is much more show you once then go do it. Since I don't plan on painting right away I don't know if I want to take the class now and forget a bunch of stuff come paint time. Welding: There is a class that is two nights a week that does the main welding processes (stick/mig/tig/OA). I can mig but want to get better with mig and learn tig. The classes overlap so I cant do both. What would you all do?

Re: Used Parts Build
I guess paint only happens during the spring semester so I guess paint it is.
Anyway I went out and bought a new tool... Its been raining quite a bit over here so I should have some free time to work on setting it up and cleaning my garage.

Re: Used Parts Build
Little side project.
I'm building a little set up to cool and dry the air. Obviously I'm not a plumber... I know the two bottom openings (when I am putting my valves) arent pointed directly down but if I open them under pressure it should clear all the water. I ordered barbed fittings to run rubber lines off each valve and tank drain to outside. I'm hoping it wont leak too bad. I used plumbers tape and Locktite thread sealant on each fitting. This is the first time I worked with plumbing/black pipe and I see why people buy expensive air dryers/filters. Trying to keep everything in place and not rotating as you tighten everything is a *****! I think if I need to redo it I am going to clamp it down to 2x4's as I connect each piece.

Re: Used Parts Build
Thanks.
It's to increase caster. It will make the truck handle better (more like a modern car). I stole the idea from Rob (No Limit) JT build thread.

Re: Used Parts Build
So I got it all installed. Ran the compressor and opened the valve to the set up I plumbed. No audible leaks! I was expecting it to hiss like hell. It does have a leak because it looses 5lbs an hour but honestly I am happy as a clam.
Filter and secured line at the end. Drain plumbed in: I ordered a few barbed fittings to run off the ball valves to run rubber hose outside so I dont have to worry about clean up. Spent a hour or two trying to line up the cab/front end and gaps. I dont know why but my core support mounts look to be 1/2-3/4'' high...I dont know why. I looked back at all my pictures and cant figure it out. It looks like I will be able to just drill out the rivets and remount the supports lower or I can cut the mounts down.

Re: Used Parts Build
So my sister from another mother asked me to replace her timing belt on her Honda. This lead me to 4 hours of sweating, straining, and broken tools. After all of that I still couldnt get the crank bolt out.
So I did something that I knew I could pull off...assembling motor mounts haha New mounts: Assembled: But I did manage to trim the fenders, battery box, etc. So I had to take a pic of it.

Re: Used Parts Build
I have been trying to work on the truck more frequently so I welded up the trusses on my lower bars.
They were a bit long so I cut the edges off. The lines are references for my welds. I didnt want to weld them all the way across: I used two vises to make sure the bars were square: Of course I always have one really ****ty weld: but the rest looked nice: and done!
