Re: Teenagers Dream
Theres a guy in CT who baught a brandy new 74 chevy truck. When he got it home he yanked out the gas engine and installed a perkins deisel. Not even after a week after the swap it was loaded up and headed cross country on vacation! I was told that the engine never warmed up enough to run effecient so the owner added louvors to the frount of the grille!

Re: Teenagers Dream
Is anybody friends with 65Crewcab in real life? He has a pretty sweet cummins set up in his truck, i know he is running it on a C-30 frame so i need to research boxing the C-10 or C20 frame to be stronger. Is it possible to mount the Cummins 6bt without cutting into the firewall. Sounds like the Chevy 6.2 is almost plug and play but it is weaker, yet cheaper. Personally what i have seen is cummins are more expensive but more durable and dependable. I will have to do more research on the differences. I would love a cummins but if it would be more efficent i would run the 6.2 if i could get one cheap and clean it up well |

The 6bt can be done without cutting the fire wall.

Re: Teenagers Dream
After some pondering, im thinking i may need to take 2 jobs this summer... i dont think i will be able to do everything with only $9.50 an hour. I mean sure i will probably sell the engine and trans, wheels, seats, other parts i dont want now but will probably need in the future. Im looking at somewhere over $10k to fix up this truck. I will have to work real hard if i want this dream to come true

Re: Teenagers Dream
That's the plan! just i don't think i will be able to finish it in one summer, so i will probably finish it by Christmas if i keep working into the school year. I will have to see where i can get cheaper parts. I mean a new disk brake kit from in back is just under $1,800. power steering is just under $800. Those are almost needed for a teenager like myself to safely drive an older truck like this. and thats a few weeks of working just to be able to drive safely, then i still have to paint it haha, oh i will keep working on getting lower priced goods

Re: Teenagers Dream
I think that you are under estimating the driveability of a stock pickup. My first vehicle when I was 17 was a c10. It had a mild 350, a stock 4-speed and 4-wheel non-power drum brakes. And honestly it was perfectly fine. I slowly upgraded things on it to suit what I wanted. But it has always been a good driver.
I say that while dreaming big is a good thing, its more practical to start small and simple. Its hard to male real plans for a truck that you don't have yet Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Teenagers Dream
Im ok with working to have to steer the car and pumping the brakes a little bit earlier to get the "boat" to slow down, but i really think to convince my momma to let me get the truck the top of the list of things to do is safety stuff. I found a guy with a C20 it needs a fuel injector or something like that and a radiator it has a V8? in it says it was to powerful for his 16 year old son, thinking his son must be a little weak in the wrist... if that saying is still allowed idk... but its $1800 and he has the radiator to put in, it probably needs tires and new fluids but hey i have a 75 gallon fishtank with a $1000+ value put on it by my dad and it is craigslist so LETS WORK A DEAL. I may have a POS truck by the end of the month, but if it runs and will help me get to a job soi can make it steer like a sporty boat by the end of the summer i will be happy
