Really nice looking project you have, top notch parts and love that it is a father/son project.

Re: My sons dropmember C10 build
Father son projects are great and I am glad to see that there are others sharing their passion for cars with there kids.
I started on the rear suspension today. And I must say I think everyone should have to grind and drive the crossmember rivets out at least once. Lol |

Re: My sons dropmember C10 build
I tackled the steering today. I set it up with the 3 steering joints and the heim joint but really did not like it at all. So I cut down the stock column so the column is just outside the firewall. This let me run 2 joints and a single shaft. It is super smooth and bind free. While I was at it I moved the steering wheel about a 1/2 inch closer to the dash. Once I was happy with where it was at I made a new mount for the column on the inside of the truck.I also cut down the rear notch and welded it into place.
I am very happy with how things are starting to shape up. I will get some pics up tomorrow. |

Re: My sons dropmember C10 build
Today i put in the high hump trans cover and I hope to get the motor and trans test fit by the end of the week.
I am a little stumped on what to do on the coilovers. The rear notches setup perfect for the 5.2 ridetech shock.Ridetech wants 11.75 eye to eye at ride height and that is what I have. The front is giving me a fit. I have the frame at the front of the cab at about 5.5 or maybe just a hair lower. This gives me about 11 inches eye to eye on the mount. Ride tech says i would have to run there 2.9 travel shock, and its really not enough. They said the 3.6 would be better but i would need to move the upper mount so I get 11.75 eye to eye. what a big pain in the butt. Not sure what to do. |

Re: My sons dropmember C10 build
Just shoot us a call and I will get you a set of upper hats that have the coil over mount moved up 1" higher. Piece of cake!

Re: My sons dropmember C10 build
Porterbuilt has customer service that is second to none. Sounds like they will have new hats on the way sometime next week. I must say i am impressed,I am doing something with their suspension that does not fall into their normal kits and they are making sure that it goes together and works. Most companies would have said that I am trying to do something there product is not intended for and tough luck.
On another note We stuck the motor and trans in tonight. I will get some pics up friday.I know the kit is designed to run a 2 piece drive shaft but I am pretty sure with a small tunnel in the cab and adding a new top to the truck arm crossmember I could run a 1 piece shaft. Its just a little more work. |

Re: My sons dropmember C10 build
I went rounds with myself on deciding if I wanted the 2 piece driveshaft or a 1 piece. Today i just took the plasma cutter to the floor so i could not go back and forth any more. While I was doing that my son tossed the P.S. bracket and the stock escalade exhaust manifolds on. I want to run headers but the stock manifolds look to be a very nice piece and fit great.
Anyway a few pics. |

Re: My sons dropmember C10 build
I was able to break free a little over the last week or so and mess with the truck.
I raised the lower part of the front frame horns and moved the sway bar up and Finished up the drive shaft tunnel. The frame flex on this truck is crazy so i added a little bit of metal underneath and mounted the trans.Oh and I starte fitting a set of rear wheel tubs. e18.jpg[/IMG] |
