Hey,
Do you mind sharing the dimensions of that crossmember you built for the cummins? That's a beauty! AMAZING build by the way! |

Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons
Thanks for getting back with me. The motor mounts and crossmember for the engine. I looked at auto world, if I remember right and they wanted a good bit. I figure I'll build one or get some buddies who weld to put one together.

Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons
I still have the templates for the motor mounts. The trans crossmember I could measure for you and the front crossmember is a 73-87 with sway bar mounts.. I am still working on a crossmember that will be under the oil pan and will be removeable so that i can change the pan gasket.

Hey thanks for getting back with me.
i went back and looked and I was wrong. It is a transmission crossmember you built for a nv4500. Could you explain more of what you used for the engine mounts? and how far from the front of the frame did you put them? |

Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons
I used mounts from a 94 and up dodge because I had them. I used 1/4" plate for mounting tabs and slid them inside the frame and welded them. Ill have to measure how far they are set back.

Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons
thanks rgreathouse! I'd be pretty stoked if you could give me the dimensions of the 1/4 plate and how far they are set back. I'd rather ask questions and get it right the first time then do things over and over

Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons
Thanks! Im gonna get some update pics tonight... I went with the nv4500 for a few reasons:4500 is shorter and lighter than 5600, 4500 is cheaper to repair, with the fully splined mainshaft they are very strong, and most importantly the nv4500 was free and in nee of a rebuild, nv5600 are fairly expensive
But all in all if money wasnt an issue i would have gone with a 5600 and your build sounds awesome! Posted via Mobile Device

And last update is new wheels and tires. I know for some of you this is not your style, but I love it and I will be keeping my 16.5x9.75 stock steelys and caps.
20x12 black xd series diesel. Tires are rollers only, still debating new 33s or 35s.

Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons
chevyboy73: Ive had quite a few vehicles over the years, 2 dmax/allisons, 2 cummins/autos, 2 cummins nv4500, sbc/sm465,5.3L,6.0L. And my favorite has always been a 12v cummins with a 5spd behind it, so for most of this build Ive been choosing everything based on what I've driven and liked from experience. Theres a lot of good options out there but for my dream truck itll be a swb 67-72 with a 12v/nv4500 and one tons.
As far as paint goes it will remain the original white paint job thats on the truck, I plan to paint firewall and cab floor to dress it up as well as add black lower moldings. Once Ive driven it for a while I'll tear it back apart and paint it, add a/c, build up the motor etc. The color I paint it is still undecided, options are white, red, and black.

Great progress done there. Not a fan of big wheels and small tires, but that combo i really like. I would go 35's for sure and stick with white paint scheme.
What kind of numbers you hoping to get from motor? |

Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons
Thanks! The motors pretty much staying pretty stock to get it on the road, just some pump mods and an hx35. Ive had first gen dodge with these mods and theyre plenty fun to drive so the 72 being lighter itll be a fun setup for right now. Down the road id like to stud it, i have a ht3b for a compound twin setup, put some injectors in and possibly a p-pump swap. The ve injection pump will be my limiting factor. Soo we'll see.
Ive been debating a 1" body to make exhaust, intercooler, and bellhousing bolts easier to access. If I do a 1" and keep te 6" leafs I will run 35s... The other option is get 4" leafs and run 33s. Whats everyones input on tire size and suspension height? Posted via Mobile Device

Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons
Being a swb IDK if I'd go real high with it if you want to tow much. 35's and the lift you have ought to look pretty sweet! SC SWB trucks get real squirrely when towing and braking comes in to play.

4" lift and 35 12.5 BFG's. This has always been my favorite look.

Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons
20s are as big as id go, and I was borderline doing that.
If I have a buyer for my current suspension Ive been debating lowering the truck some, and get it to ride a little better. Try to get it more around a 4". Ive read alot about the 52" swap for fronts but seems like they maybe too soft for a street truck especially with the added weight of the 12v. Anyone have input? Ive also looked into the tuff country ez ride hd. For rear possibly stock rear leafs with a shackle flip, or maybe stock 56" leafs with shackle flip. Posted via Mobile Device

Some new photos... took my bed up to the shop in the back of the toyota, Bed needs some work but not too bad. Debating adding side markers to bed or shaving them on fenders.
