Re: 61 Suburban 4x4 on 87 Frame
Its hard to see in the photo, but there is a clear potting resin around all the LEDs and the circuit board. I imagine this will give it a long life bouncing around in the back of a Suburban.
Because the plug on the back made them to thick to fit behind the stock lens, I had to cut off the plastic surround. I then used a grinder to grind the contacts down flush with the plastic and soldered on some wires. |

Re: 61 Suburban 4x4 on 87 Frame
I used some electrical tape to insulate my new connections from the housing. I then used double sided tape to mount the new lights in the housing. The new LED basically squeezes between the foam double sided tape and the factory lens.

Re: 61 Suburban 4x4 on 87 Frame
Would you get a pic of the rear wheel well opening in relation to the tire clearance? Did you cut the frame to match the original wheelbase? What is the height of the tires? Thanks.

Re: 61 Suburban 4x4 on 87 Frame
Absolutely smashing build, and has given me a ton of ideas for mine, thank you!!
I stumbled on this looking at ideas for lifting my 91 burb body off it's frame when the time comes to convert it to 4wd (they never made a 4WD 3/4 ton 88-91 square with a big block) so my idea is to take my all original 2WD big block truck and make it look like a slightly lifted 4wd 3/4 ton. At the same time I'm swapping to a 6L90 trans and going to microsquirt control on my Mercruiser MAG MPI intake in lieu of the original 80E/modded TBI computer.

Re: 61 Suburban 4x4 on 87 Frame
Beauty rig!! What are those 2nd and 3rd row seats out of? The seat Beal system is set up exactly how I have been thinking of going with mine.
Cheers, Anthony |
